About the Role
The Company is seeking a Head of Power Conversion Engineering, a pivotal leadership role in a groundbreaking nuclear fission startup. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of a power conversion system that efficiently and safely transforms the heat generated by a nuclear reactor into usable electricity. This role is not about reinventing nuclear technology but rather about revolutionizing the way it is built and deployed. The ideal candidate will have a background in mechanical engineering, with a focus on complex electromechanical or fluid systems, and a proven track record of leading engineering teams in a fast-paced, high-ownership hardware environment. While a background in nuclear or power conversion is not mandatory, the role demands a leader with a strong engineering foundation, a high level of drive, and a commitment to the mission of abundant clean energy. Key responsibilities for the Head of Power Conversion Engineering include owning the entire power conversion loop, from the high-pressure steam off the reactor to the generation of electricity and the subsequent purification and recycling of the fluid. The role involves driving the design and architecture of the system, working with vendors, and ensuring the scalability of the design in partnership with the production team. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader, capable of both strategic and tactical work, and will be instrumental in building and leading a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
