The Oakland Education Association (OEA) is a local labor union and serves as the leading voice for certificated educators in the Oakland Unified School District. Our office is seeking an enthusiastic Strategic Communications/Digital Organizer to join our team to collaborate with OEA leaders and CTA Communications staff. This individual should be passionate about telling the stories of and connecting with educators across OEA.

What you’ll do: 

• Develop and implement digital organizing strategies to engage Oakland Education Association members, the public, and key stakeholders
• Create high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content for the Oakland Education Association platforms
• Maintain and grow the Oakland Education Association’s social media program
• Oversee and update the Oakland Education Association website
• Maintain and grow the email program, including managing the weekly newsletter
• Oversee all Oakland Education Association digital actions, including petitions
• Pitch content ideas to engage our audience
• Produce videography and photography
• Create graphic designs for social media and print products
• Assist with message development for organizing, politics, and policy
• Assist with communications trainings for members and partners
• Assist with event coordination as-needed
• Expect some in-state travel to cover union events
• Expect some irregular hours, including on weekends, depending on bargaining campaigns, legislative sessions, elections, and union events

Familiarity with Digital Tools:

• Graphic & web design programs including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Wordpress
• Video editing skills, including use of Adobe Premier, Capcut
• Texting platforms – Scale to Win
• Email platforms – Mailchimp and Constant Contact
• Hustle 
• Canva 
• Action Network 
• Constant Contact, Mailchimp
• Scribble/Video Scribe
• Website - Name.com
• Social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube
• Engagement tools including Gravity Forms, Zapier, web publishing software and database management a plus
• Knowledge of Salesforce a plus

Required qualifications include:

• 1-3 years of similar or related professional experience in digital communications
• Excellent writing, verbal, and organizational skills 
• Ability to be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to create clear, concise, and engaging content 
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively and prioritize work
• A working knowledge of video editing and graphic design
• Experience with some of the tools we use 
• Demonstrated strong commitment to the goals and mission of the labor movement

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience in digital organizing and content creation in a campaign setting or labor movement organization
• Knowledge of California Public Education politics and the California Legislature 
• Knowledge of the labor movement
• Knowledge of journalism standards and AP style
• Spanish-language fluency a plus

The salary for this position is $80,000 – $100,000/ year with a competitive benefits package, including fully-covered health care, dental, vision, vacation and sick time.
