FamilyWell provides comprehensive virtual mental health services designed specifically for integration into women's health practices and health systems. FamilyWell's virtual care team model delivers evidence-based mental health support throughout the full reproductive lifecycle—from fertility through menopause—using the proven Collaborative Care Model (CoCM).

Our tech-enabled platform seamlessly embeds coaching, therapy, and psychiatric services directly into clinical workflows, making high-quality mental health care accessible, affordable, and insurance-covered. With 95% of patients experiencing clinical improvement within four months, we're addressing one of healthcare's most underserved areas while creating a financially sustainable model for our provider partners.

Location: Remote — strong preference for candidates based in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, or Connecticut. Occasional in-person attendance (approximately 1–2 times per month) may be required.

Job Summary

FamilyWell Health is seeking a Head of People to build and scale our people function as our first full-time People leader. Some foundational pieces exist today (an HRIS, an employee handbook), but this is a foundational leadership role: most of the infrastructure still needs to be built, and what exists will need to be evaluated and refined to support our next phase of growth at a high-growth, Series A healthcare services company expanding access to high-quality, equitable mental health care for women across the reproductive lifecycle.

We are looking for a hands-on people leader with startup experience who can build the HR infrastructure, compliance systems, and talent processes required to support a rapidly scaling, multi-state clinical and operational workforce - while also acting as a strategic partner to the executive team on org design, culture, and workforce planning.

What You'll Do

People Infrastructure & Systems

• Evaluate FamilyWell's existing HRIS against the organization's scaling needs and lead any transition or expanded implementation required
• Refine and expand FamilyWell's existing employee handbook and policy library as the company scales into new states and service lines
• Design and document HR processes for a mixed W-2/1099, multi-state, clinical + non-clinical workforce

Compensation, Benefits & Compliance

• Own compensation strategy and banding, partnering with Finance on benchmarking and budget alignment
• Administer employee benefits and manage broker/vendor relationships
• Manage multi-state employment compliance, including worker classification and ABC-test exposure across expansion states, partnering with outside counsel and conducting independent research as needed
• Partner with Finance and outside counsel on ERISA, payroll controls, and regulatory risk

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

• Build scalable recruiting infrastructure and processes to support FamilyWell's active hiring needs across clinical and corporate roles
• Partner with hiring managers on org design, headcount planning, and leveling as the company expands into new states and service lines
• Own the candidate experience from requisition through offer

Performance, Culture & Employee Relations

• Design and roll out a performance management framework (goal-setting, reviews, feedback cycles)
• Own employee relations, investigations, and performance improvement processes
• Build culture and engagement practices suited to a fully distributed, mission-driven team
• Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team on organizational design and people strategy

Qualifications

Required

• 8+ years of progressive HR/People leadership experience, including at least 2+ years building a People function largely from scratch at an early-stage or high-growth startup
• Working knowledge of multi-state employment law and worker classification sufficient to identify issues and know when to loop in outside counsel, including exposure to strict/ABC-test states
• Experience designing compensation bands and partnering with Finance on comp strategy and budget
• Experience managing a mixed workforce of W-2 employees and 1099 contractors
• Track record of evaluating, scaling, or implementing HRIS/people systems and foundational HR infrastructure (handbook, policies, onboarding) at a growing organization

Strongly Preferred

• Experience in healthcare services, behavioral health, or a multi-site/multi-state clinical workforce environment
• Familiarity with the interplay between HR and clinical credentialing/licensure functions
• Experience operating within a PE- or VC-backed company
• SHRM-CP/SCP or equivalent HR certification
• Experience building recruiting infrastructure and leading talent acquisition in a fast-scaling org
