Math & Science Teacher
The Math & Science Teacher delivers standards-aligned, credit-bearing instruction in mathematics and science within a therapeutic residential setting. This role supports students in building foundational skills, conceptual understanding, and academic confidence while adapting pacing, instructional strategies, and assessment methods to meet diverse learning needs.
Through close collaboration with youth care staff, clinicians, and the broader education team, the Math & Science Teacher ensures instruction remains structured, accessible, and supportive, while maintaining academic rigor and alignment to Wyoming State Content Standards.
Instructional Responsibilities
- Deliver structured, credit-bearing instruction in:
- Core math courses, including but not limited to Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2
- Core science courses, including but not limited to Life Science, Physical/Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science
- Teach and/or contribute to:
- Physical Education (including Health & Hygiene standards)
- Robotics
- Personal Finance
- Educational Games & Initiatives; other electives & programming as deemed necessary
- Support students in developing:
- Foundational STEM skills & conceptual understanding
- Academic confidence, executive functioning, and independent work habits
- Differentiate instruction to meet varied academic levels while preserving course integrity.
- Adapt pacing and instructional methods to support diverse learners.
- Develop and maintain curriculum maps and unit plans aligned to Wyoming State Academic Content Standards. Utilize Backwards Design when developing units, including:
- Clear standards alignment
- Measurable learning objectives
- Defined assessments
- Review and revise course descriptions annually in collaboration with the Education Director.
- Incorporate project-based learning, guest speakers, field experiences, and community partnerships where appropriate.
Student Support & Therapeutic Alignment
- Maintain awareness of students' therapeutic goals, accommodations, and medication considerations.
- Attend and contribute to regular faculty meetings and case review meetings.
- Collaborate closely with therapists, childcare staff, and administration to support student progress.
- Provide behavioral and academic observations as requested.
- Maintain a regulated, consistent classroom presence aligned with RTM therapeutic practices.
Special Education & Differentiation
- Actively participate in the IEP process.
- Attend IEP meetings as needed and contribute instructional data and recommendations.
- Monitor and document progress toward IEP goals.
- Collaborate with special education staff to adjust instruction as needed; provide necessary services & accommodations to IEP students
- Provide clear instructional direction to classroom aides regarding student accommodations.
- Identify students not responding to instruction and collaborate to implement targeted supports.
- Provide reintegration recommendations to the Academic & Transition Coordinator when transitioning students back to district schools.
Collaboration & Communication
- Maintain ongoing communication with:
- Therapists (who serve as primary family communication conduit)
- Youth Care
- RTM Program Director
- Teaching team; Academic & Transition Coordinator
- Education Director
- Provide clear direction and instructional guidance to classroom aides.
- Debrief with aides regularly to strengthen instructional consistency.
- Participate in the Education Task Force.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary curriculum development.
Data & Documentation
- Actively collect and analyze assessment data to inform instruction.
- Maintain accurate and timely records including:
- Attendance
- Behavioral tracking systems (Weekly Progress Monitoring & Stage Expectations)
- Special education documentation
- Academic progress records
- Contribute to school-wide data collection and continuous improvement efforts.
- Integrate wilderness learning with classroom instruction.
- Participate in up to 10 days of TAP programming.
- Contribute expertise to wilderness curriculum.
Professional Expectations
- Serve as a positive role model for students.
- Adhere to all RTM and Teton Youth & Family Services policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of student and program information.
- Participate in annual in-service training and professional development.
- Develop and maintain a Professional Growth Plan aligned with RTM Teacher Competencies.
- Participate in instructional observation cycles including:
- Pre-observation meeting
- Classroom observation
- Post-observation meeting
- Engage in mentorship with content-area peers when feasible.
- Contribute to school improvement initiatives under the leadership of the Education Director.
Requirements
- A degree in Education or equivalent experience.
- Preferred two years of experience in the teaching field
- A clear understanding of and commitment to the principles of confidentiality in our work.
- A valid teaching license or the ability to earn one in a timely fashion
