Mitigation Technician

MITIGATION TECHNICIAN

As a Mitigation Technician for Merit Restorations, you will work directly for the Branch Manager. You will be the first on the scene and responsible for directing mitigation efforts and subcontractors in the remediation of damaged property caused by water, fire, or other covered perils. Your role includes coordinating the emergency service portion of each claim, ensuring proper equipment setup and removal, collecting accurate sketches and moisture readings, and maintaining quality control throughout the restoration process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work safely in residential and commercial properties that have been damaged by fire, water, storm, or related incidents. Direct employees and subcontractors in emergency services claims, including water mitigation when mechanical drying is required, board‑up, tarp‑up, and other tasks. Follow carrier‑specific mitigation guidelines for each assignment. Contact customers and update control points per carrier guidelines. Utilize appropriate mitigation software for each assignment. Ensure all paperwork is completed, from start to finish, and entered into Moisture Mapper, MICA, and Fire & Ice systems. Assess damage, take before and after photographs of all four corners of the job site, and complete proper forms. Maintain the digital photographic inventory by labeling photos and uploading them into the correct folder or software. Plan and execute drying procedures for the structure, both independently and as part of a crew, and set up equipment as required. Record moisture levels, relative humidity, dew points, and grain measurements for water loss claims, following proper drying protocols. Abide by company policies for mold remediation. Provide hands‑on production for all mitigation projects from start to finish, ensuring compliance with IICRC specifications. Remove all trash and debris from the job site and supervise cleanup at the end of each day. Communicate daily with the Branch Manager, notifying about project status and any changes or discrepancies. Supervise Mitigation Technicians, employees, and subcontractors on site, ensuring all materials are delivered and personnel have adequate supplies. Maintain and inspect emergency service vehicles, trailers, and equipment, and arrange for daily replenishment of supplies and chemicals. Complete ITEL reports on the first day of a job if required. Maintain projects in a neat and orderly fashion. Follow demolition and construction guidelines, issue purchase orders as needed, and report any procedural issues to the Branch Manager. Conduct yourself professionally at all times, setting a positive example for employees and subcontractors. Respect customers by ensuring employees and subcontractors do not use their belongings, avoid smoking in customer homes, and refrain from playing loud or offensive music. Serve as a customer liaison, speaking knowledgeably and honestly, and ensuring promises are kept or customers are notified of delays. Ensure crews are on schedule for customer appointments and alert customers promptly of any schedule changes. Solve problems within your authority and collaborate with other employees as needed. Do not perform work outside your job description without Branch Manager approval, but proactively seek additional responsibilities for learning opportunities. Make quick, accurate decisions when necessary and take responsibility for those decisions. Monitor work for timely completion and quality control, upholding high standards. Maintain a high degree of integrity and loyalty toward the company and all levels of management. Accomplish any other tasks as required by the Branch Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid driver’s license. Computer skills including word processing (Microsoft Word) and spreadsheet use (Excel). Ability to interpret and understand job work orders.

INDUSTRY EXPERTISE AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

All employees are expected to stay current with industry trends within their specific area of expertise (e.g., accounting, marketing, customer service). This includes attending professional workshops, taking educational courses, and cross‑training within other departments.

GROWTH EXPECTATIONS

Continued education through IICRC and other relevant firms or organizations. Training in Xactimate and other mitigation software such as Moisture Mapper and MICA. Successful completion of post‑offer pre‑employment and annual background checks, as well as drug screening.

MISCELLANEOUS

Performs all other duties as may be assigned. Specifically, you will work with Nathan Tobler as needed on rebuild assignments (GC). An understanding of the rebuild side is valuable as you may assist with site inspections and estimating, depending on mitigation volume.
