This role supports a busy machine shop in a large, warehouse-style environment with active production, significant machine noise, and a mix of sitting and standing tasks. You will handle long metal bars and screws, assist with thread rolling and assembly operations, and use precision measuring tools to ensure parts meet specifications. The position offers exposure to multiple workstations, including thread rolling, assembly, straightening, and general machine shop support.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload long metal bars and poles into threading and thread rolling machines, handling materials that can weigh between 15–50 lbs.
• Set up and operate thread rolling machines to form threads on blank screws and other parts.
• Assist with assembly line production, performing the thread rolling function and supporting general mechanical assembly tasks.
• Perform visual, dimensional, mechanical, and electrical checks on parts, assemblies, and completed products to ensure quality standards.
• Use calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other precision tools to read and measure parts accurately.
• Ensure metal bars are straight and properly leveled using shop machines and tools before and after processing.
• Support different areas of the machine shop, including thread rolling, assembly, straightening, and general production, and move between stations as needed.
• Perform deburring and basic machine operating tasks as part of general machine shop helper duties.
• Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively for grinding, assembly, and other shop activities.
• Read and interpret blueprints and apply GD&T knowledge to understand part requirements and tolerances.
• Communicate essential information, issues, and observations to the supervisor in a timely and clear manner.
• Follow all health and safety regulations and maintain 5S standards, including organization, cleanliness, and proper storage of tools and materials.
• Carry out other duties of similar complexity as assigned by the supervisor to support overall shop operations.

Essential Skills

• Prior manufacturing or machine shop experience in a production environment.
• Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver metal bars and poles weighing between approximately 15–50 lbs.
• Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to perform accurate measurements.
• General machine operating experience, including loading, unloading, and monitoring machines during production.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and apply basic GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) concepts.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical assembly and machine shop equipment.
• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools commonly used in a machine shop, including tools for grinding and assembly.
• Attention to detail when inspecting screws, bars, and assemblies to ensure they meet required specifications.
• Ability to work effectively in a noisy, fast-paced warehouse environment with multiple machines operating.
• Strong teamwork attitude, with the ability to collaborate and support colleagues across different stations.
• Self-starter mindset with a willingness to learn the trade and take initiative in daily tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in general production or general labor roles within a manufacturing setting.
• Background in mechanical assembly or machine shop work, including grinding and assembly operations.
• Familiarity with thread rolling processes and related machine setups is a plus.
• Comfort moving between different workstations such as thread rolling, assembly, and straightening as operational needs change.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain accurate work practices.
• Commitment to long-term employment and interest in growing into more advanced roles within the shop.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large warehouse-style machine shop with multiple machines running and a high level of ambient noise. Work involves both sitting and standing throughout the day and regular handling of long metal bars and poles weighing between approximately 15–30 lbs and up to 50 lbs. You will work around threading machines, thread rollers, grinding equipment, and other shop tools, using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and hand and power tools to complete tasks. The environment emphasizes safety and 5S practices, with organized work areas, proper tool storage, and adherence to health and safety regulations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fremont, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
