EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Possess a Bachelor's Degree with a major in music education Knowledge of Dalcroze, Kodaly, MLT, and/or Orff Understanding of musical concepts Experience applying differentiated instruction to all aspects of a general music curriculum Demonstrate ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, faculty, administrators, peers, parents, and the Ann Arbor community. Active involvement in professional music association(s) Ability to use technology for instructional and management purposes Application and knowledge of United States laws related to copyright both of physical music and mechanical royalties for performance and recording CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in K-12 music ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach a well-rounded, district-approved, general music curriculum to elementary students according to national and state guidelines Ability to play the piano or other accompaniment instruments. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and designated times. Plan a program of study that meets the student's individual needs, interests, and abilities. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the student's maturity and interests. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Diagnoses the educational needs of students. Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes. Provide performing opportunities for students in concerts and assembly formats Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Serve on committees to promote music in the school as well as the community. Other duties as assigned LANGUAGE SKILLS: Read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effectively present information in written and oral form. Speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; have the ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and skills of students to whom assigned. Establish effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
