AVP, Actuarial Reserving & Loss Analytics (Reinsurance)

This leadership role will own reserving and loss analytics and results management for the AINA cessions for various critical reinsurers, while leading key processes across the Reserving and Loss Analytics department. The position requires a comprehensive focus on multiple lines of business (Auto, General Liability, Property, and specialty lines) and close collaboration with pricing and finance to monitor industry trends and underwriting actions. Responsibilities Own reserving and loss analytics for the AINA cessions to our largest reinsurer and broader allocations. Work in close collaboration with underwriting, pricing, claims and finance to develop a common view of the business. Partner with stakeholders to identify emerging trends that could impact results and propose corrective actions in a timely manner. Lead projects across the Reserving & Loss Analytics team, ensuring timely delivery through collaboration. Provide proactive insights, identify drivers, and ensure reserve analyses reflect portfolio changes to minimize volatility. Apply innovative approaches and leading‑edge tools to analyze the business. Leverage advanced analytics to deliver greater insights. Ensure data quality and consistent application in the reserving process. Prioritize work to deliver analyses of greatest benefit to the organization. Maintain an active leadership role within Arch’s actuarial community and stay abreast of new reserving methodologies, trends, and external issues. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressively complex actuarial roles within the property and casualty insurance industry. Knowledge and experience with reinsurance reserving (preferred). Minimum of 5 years’ experience within a reserving function. Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. Strong leadership skills, including teaching, managing, mentoring and contributing to a positive culture. Analytical and quantitative prowess with a theoretical foundation, high work quality, productivity, creativity, and ingenuity. Software skills: expert in Excel, Word, PowerPoint; expert in SQL; Power BI (preferred); database and programming knowledge including Snowflake (preferred) and Python (preferred). Self‑sufficient and capable of building comprehensive reserving models and analytic solutions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to a broad audience including executive leadership and the board. Proven expertise in leading and developing actuarial teams, creating high‑performing teams with strong technical skills and business acumen. Experience presenting to executive management and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to provide proactive guidance and sought‑out insights to business leaders, executive management, and other stakeholders.
