Position Overview:

The purpose of this position is to serve as a Veterinarian for Houston Humane Society.

You will:

• Work in a brand new, fully-equipped, 10,000 sq ft public clinic with highly skilled staff.
• Perform services such as high-volume spaying and neutering, general exams, diagnostics, dentistry, lab work, and vaccinations.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

•   Perform all duties of a DVM as sanctioned by Texas state law.
• Determine nature of disease or injury by examining pets.
• Perform surgical procedures and provide anesthesia services.
• Order and evaluate laboratory tests.
• Provide training for personnel and volunteers related to animal care, nutrition, breeding, sanitation, and techniques for handling animals with a broad range of temperaments. 
• Prepare and maintain appropriate records.
• Plan and conduct continuing animal health education.
• Collaborate with other agency departments and staff to ensure continuity of care.
• All other duties that arise in the course of daily operations.

Qualifications & Skills: 

• Requires a Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine. Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medicine. License must also include DPS and FDA controlled substance licensure.
• Maintain current DVM license in good standing. 
• Knowledge of Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.
• Strong client service skills.
• Strong leadership, communication and motivations skills. Has the ability to direct, guide and assist a group of individuals. 
• Spanish language skills both written and spoken preferred, but not required.
