Summary: The Behavior Technician is a key member of the support staff team, dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and emotionally responsive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Working in collaboration with teachers, school counselors, special educators, related service providers, and families, the Behavior Technician provides direct behavioral intervention and support for students with social-emotional, behavioral, developmental, and autism-related needs. They promote positive student behavior, removes barriers to learning, and supports equitable access to high-quality instruction through emotionally responsive, restorative, and trauma-informed practices. Principal Responsibilities: Student Behavioral Support
- Provide individualized and small-group behavioral support.
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity.
- Teach replacement behaviors, coping, self-regulation, and social-emotional skills.
- Support students during instruction and unstructured times.
- Promote student independence through gradual fading of supports.
- May include toileting
- Use emotionally responsive practices to co-regulate students.
- Facilitate restorative conversations.
- Model trauma-informed interactions.
- Support teachers with restorative classroom practices.
- Respond using approved de-escalation strategies.
- Assist with crisis response and safety planning.
- Document behavioral incidents.
- Participate in post-incident debriefings.
- Collect and maintain behavioral data.
- Monitor progress toward behavioral goals.
- Participate in MTSS and student support meetings.
- Collaborate with staff and families.
- Provide coaching and modeling for classroom staff.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in professional learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, Social Work, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience supporting students with behavioral, developmental, and/or autism-related needs, preferably in a school setting.
- Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and collecting behavioral data to monitor student progress.
- Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and evidence-based behavior support strategies.
- Experience implementing emotionally responsive, restorative, and trauma-informed practices preferred.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Safety-Care, or similar de-escalation training preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
- Successful completion of all required criminal background checks and fingerprinting in accordance with Connecticut law.
- A student-centered, relationship-first mindset.

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution-oriented during challenging situations.
