Inpatient Float Pool At Musc
Meduflex is the inpatient Float Pool at MUSC. Our primary focus is coverage for callouts and extended leaves of absence. We offer 10 different zones providing patient care for Adult and Pediatric units at all four locations downtown: University Hospital, Ashley River Tower, the Institute of Psychiatry, and Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital.

The following Pediatric Zones are available on the Float Team. Please note in your application which unit(s) you prefer. To qualify for a zone, you must have at least one year of experience in that specialty.
Pediatric Acute Care: You will float between the Pediatric Acute Care Units, Pediatric Oncology Unit, Pediatric Cardiac Intermediate Unit, and Neonatal ICU to provide care for up to Level 2 patients. If needed, you may float to the ICUs to provide care for intermediate patients at Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital.
Pediatric Critical Care: You will float between the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Cardiac ICU and Neonatal ICU. Floating to Intermediate units or floors are as needed in the Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital.
Maternal Infant: You will float between the Mother Baby unit and Neonatal ICU caring for up to Level 2 patients.
Labor and Delivery/Antepartum: You will float between Antepartum (in the Mother Baby Unit) and Labor and Delivery to provide care for either Antepartum patients or laboring mothers.
Specific to the Float Team, We Offer an Extra Differential
Hours per week: Vary based on preference, day/night shift varies per zone
.15 FTE: 1-12 hour shift/2 weeks
.3 FTE: 1-12 hour shift/week
.6 FTE: 2-12 hour shifts/week
.75 FTE: 2-12 hour shifts/week one & 3-12 hour shifts/week two
.9 FTE: 3-12 hour shifts/week
Up to $10k sign-on bonus for full-time position with a 2-year service agreement for external candidates who have a minimum of 2-years of experience in zone offered.
Job Summary/Purpose: The Registered Nurse II under general supervision provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
Minimum Training and Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required. Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to initiate education for BSN within 2 years and complete within four years of hire date. Employees are required to sign an agreement regarding the education requirement.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Some positions require certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, and walking. Ability to climb stairs, work indoors, and work outside in temperature extremes. Ability to work from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, and from kneeling positions. Ability to bend at the waist, twist at the waist, squat, perform "pinching" operations, and perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands. Ability to perform fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reach overhead, and perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders. Ability to fully use both legs, use lower extremities for balance and coordination, and reach in all directions. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, and lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes, see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance, match or discriminate between colors, determine distance/relationship between objects, and have good peripheral vision capabilities. Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction, perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, work overtime as required, and work in a latex safe environment. Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function and be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
