Phlebotomist Cottonwood

Position Summary This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS). It may be responsible for providing coverage at multiple locations. The role includes collection and receipt of biological specimens into the department, proper entry into the company's computer system, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and distribution of specimens to the correct analytical area. Responsibilities cover pre- and post-aspects of analytical testing, and the position will perform specified analytical testing as assigned. The candidate must follow guidelines of the Code of Conduct. Location Primary City/State: Cottonwood, Arizona Department Name: PSC-Cottonwood-RLX Work Shift: Day Job Category: Phlebotomy Core Functions Perform specimen collection, general laboratory specimen processing, or referral laboratory processing while ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and integrity. Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, appropriate clinical information, and all other pertinent data from requisitions and computer-generated orders. Verify accuracy of entered information and appropriateness of specimens received. Aliquot and label specimens according to established procedures, deliver them to the technical area timely, or perform initial processing and preparation of samples for transport. Focus on quality by ensuring all work performed is accurate and complete, complete documents legibly, follow established methods, maintain familiarity with departmental procedures, and record communications appropriately. Initiate computer-generated reports for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring. Meet departmental standards for productivity and quality. Participate in committees or Six Sigma teams and maintain acceptable specimen rejection rates. Participate in departmental financial responsibilities by using supplies and materials efficiently, avoid excessive waste, and contribute to cost-reduction initiatives. Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers, cooperate with co-workers, resolve basic service issues, and attend meetings. Acknowledge and understand the importance of patient rights and HIPAA privacy. Internal customers: Employees of the system. External customers: Nurses, physicians, office personnel, and vendors. Physical Demands & Environmental Factors Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently. Must lift, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity and standard precautions due to potential exposure to blood, body fluids, chemicals, electrical and biological hazards. Must use a computer, printers, copiers, telephone, fax, and department-specific equipment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Personal maturity and responsibility. Problem-solving ability and ability to take direction quickly. Customer service skills and satisfactory performance review. Minimum Qualifications Minimum age 18. High school diploma or equivalent, subject to state regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of department resources. Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience. Phlebotomy certification as defined by state regulations. May require DHS fingerprinting certification. Valid state driver's license in the same state of employment and eligibility for company auto insurance. Float positions require travel, flexible hours, and coverage at multiple locations. Requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and occasional on-call duties. Progression through career ladder II-IV subject to completion of ladder requirements.
