Flex Speech Language Pathologist

Speech Therapist

The primary duties of the Speech Therapist are to test and measure those patients with speech, language, cognitive, hearing, and/or swallowing impairments. As prescribed by a referring physician, the ST evaluates, establishes a treatment plan, and treats the patients. The ST is mindful of the diagnosis and considers all precautions, indications and contraindications of care.

Performance duties include:

  • Providing effective, outcome related patient care demonstrated through patient/customer satisfaction and goal accomplishment.
  • Practicing understanding and compliance with all legal, regulatory and reimbursement criteria.
  • Ensuring documentation is concise, objective, and legible, meeting all reimbursement criteria and accreditation standards.
  • Identifying patient barriers to learning and incorporating appropriate teaching methodology to ensure patient/family understanding.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to professional growth and maintaining current day treatment skills.
  • Effectively organizing responsibilities to achieve maximal patient contacts and efficiency.
  • Communicating effectively and in a timely manner with all patient care team members.
  • Demonstrating flexibility with changing patient volumes and types, responding to departmental change in a supportive manner.
  • Providing education to hospital employees and the community at large as requested.
  • Demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.

Job qualifications include:

  • M.A. or M.S. in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited graduate program.
  • Awarded by the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
  • Previous experience in acute care and swallow disorders is preferred but entry-level positions are also available.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
