Position Type: Physician - Hematology/Oncology - Staff Role

Practice Locations:

• Albany - 315 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208
• Troy - 2215 Burdett Ave, Troy, NY 12180
• Operating Hours: Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; Closed on weekends.

Our organization collaborates with a renowned cancer center in Buffalo, NY, to employ physicians within the hematology/oncology program.

• Physicians typically manage 15-18 patients daily, with the option to see more if desired.
• Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) handle approximately 10-12 patients each day.
• During hospital rounds, physicians do not have assigned patients.
• The average daily hospital census ranges from 20-30 patients.
• Both office schedules and on-call patient loads are designed to be manageable and equitable.

Clinic Volumes:

• Albany Clinic: Average of 5,080 patients per day; Daily infusion visits: 3,038.
• Troy Clinic: Average of 40 patients per day; Daily infusion visits: 15-20.
• Both nurses and APPs are authorized to administer antineoplastic agents.
• MDs and APPs perform intrathecal, intralesion, and intracavity procedures.
• Bone marrow and fine needle aspiration biopsies are primarily conducted by Interventional Radiology.
• Nurses are responsible for managing VAD catheters.
• Intrapleural therapies are provided in an inpatient setting.
• We are actively pursuing clinical trials in collaboration with our partner cancer center.
• The oncology service line consists of approximately 80% oncology and 20% benign hematology.
• We are transitioning to a 1:1 MD to APP model within the oncology services.

• Patients come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
• Age range includes geriatric to young adult (no pediatric cases).
• High patient volumes in pancreatic, breast, colon, and urology cancers.
• Lower patient volumes in melanoma and renal cancers.
• Physicians have access to a wide range of specialties within our system (Thoracic, GI, H&N, GU).
• The GI group operates independently but collaborates effectively with our oncology service line.
• Our oncology service line does not manage acute leukemias or currently offer a BMT/TCT program.

Support Staff:

• Our nursing team achieved Magnet designation in 2022.
• Each physician is assigned a Primary Nurse for triage calls and administrative tasks.
• Dedicated nurses are available in both Albany and Troy clinics to assist with patient management.

Pharmacy Support: Four full-time pharmacists are available to assist with chemotherapy-related inquiries and are very approachable.

• Inpatient consult/call responsibilities follow a 1:5 schedule.
• The future goal is to achieve a 1:7 call schedule.
• Hospitalists handle patient admissions, while dedicated inpatient APPs manage ongoing care.
• After-hours call responsibility occurs Monday to Thursday every five weeks.
• Weekend call responsibility is scheduled for Friday to Sunday every five weeks.
• We utilize EPIC for electronic medical records.

We conduct tumor boards for GU, GI, Breast, Thoracic, and General oncology cases.

Additionally, virtual access to specialized tumor boards from our partner cancer center is available.

• Candidates must possess Board Certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in Medical Oncology and Hematology, or be in the process of obtaining it.
• A commitment to patient-centered care and a desire to work collaboratively within a team are essential.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills alongside strong clinical abilities are required.

We offer a comprehensive salary and benefits package, which includes:

• Annual Salary: $550,000 - $600,000 for the first two years, plus a WRVU productivity model.
• Annual Salary: $650,000 for years three to five.
• The stated salary represents the starting range of total compensation and does not include productivity bonuses, quality and performance incentives, extra shift bonuses, or other cash compensation applicable to the role. Additionally, providers typically receive a CME allowance and other benefits from their medical group employer. This salary range is provided in accordance with state law and may vary based on the factors mentioned.
