The Facility Claremore Indian Hospital

101 South Moore Avenue Claremore, OK 74017 The 50-bed facility has been JCAHO-accredited since 1978, just one year after its opening. Each year the thirty-six staff physicians and approximately 80 contract physicians admit about 1500 patients, deliver 400 babies, perform 1650 surgical procedures and attend nearly 155,000 outpatient visits. An equivalent number of outpatient visits are handled by other professional and paraprofessional hospital employees. The six-bed intensive and coronary care unit is fully equipped with sophisticated monitoring instruments. In addition, the facility has recently added state of the art CAT Scan equipment and trained staff to provide better and more timely clinical services. Following the general philosophy of the Indian Health Service, the hospital employs a team approach to disease prevention, management, and treatment. Services provided by this facility include:

RESPONSIBILITIES (Including but not limited to)

• Responsible for the administration of a wide variety of complex and exacting procedures to patients of all ages, including acute and critical care.
• Establish and maintain mechanical ventilation for critical newborn, pediatric, and adult patients using a variety of pressure and volume ventilators.
• Responsible for making ventilator adjustments as determined by the interpretation of diagnostic test results, observation and assessment, patient response, and ventilator status.
• Monitor the patient for changes in cardio-pulmonary status and responds appropriately.
• Responsible for maintaining a patent airway during resuscitation and mechanical ventilation.
• Assist with oral intubations; establishes and maintains stability of artificial airway, maintains appropriate cuff pressures.
• Apply advanced ventilator techniques such as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), BiPAP, Pressure Support (PS), Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (SIMV), Positive End Expiratory Pressure (PEEP), and Pressure Control Ventilation (PC).
• Demonstrate expertise in the management of patients on life support systems and is responsible for total patient care and maintenance of equipment.
• Establish ventilator weaning criteria specific for each patient and initiates weaning procedures; extubates when appropriate.
• Proficient in the use of a variety of ventilators specific to age and clinical application.
• Demonstrate expertise in the administration of a variety of treatment modalities including but not limited to: PEP therapy, handheld nebulizers, continuous nebulizers, oxygen therapy, and chest percussion.
• Ability to initiate and perform CPR effectively without physician direction.
• Ability to use a variety of manual resuscitation devices to ensure air exchange and respiration is successfully performed.
• Transport patients, when necessary, within the hospital while maintaining adequate ventilation and perfusion.
• Continually assess the cardio-pulmonary status of the patient using information collected by physical observation and accurate interpretation of diagnostic test results.
• Determine the effectiveness and/or need for therapy.
• Assist physicians with special procedures such as thoracentesis, tracheotomy, and thoracoscopy.
• Assist the pediatrician with the delivery of high-risk infants, especially those requiring artificial ventilation.
• Perform arterial punctures on adult and newborn patients for blood gas analysis, interprets results and acts accordingly.
• Make recommendations to the physician regarding treatment based on blood gas results.
• Obtain arterial blood samples from the appropriate anatomical location when arterial catheters are utilized.
• Participate in Pediatric Chronic Care Clinic by providing spirometry screening, peak flow measurements, and education for asthmatic patients.
• Participate in the Smoking Cessation program by providing education and carbon monoxide measurements.
• Perform diagnostic testing for patients requiring Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), Slow Vital Capacity (SVC), Lung Volumes (FRC), and diffusing capacities (DLCO).
• Serve as a consultant to the nursing and medical staff regarding diagnostic information, patient status, and the appropriate clinical application of therapies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• NBRC Certification
• BLS (American Heart Association Health Providers) Certification
• Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an approved school
• At least one year experience

TERMS:

This contract is a one-year term, base period beginning at 4/16/2022 to 04/15/2023.
