JOB SUMMARY

The RN's practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The RN records patients' medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and assists with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes a care plan or contributes to an existing plan. The plan may include activities such as administering medication, starting and maintaining intravenous lines, administering therapies, observing the patient, recording observations, and consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians. The RN teaches patients and families how to manage illnesses, explains post‑treatment and home‑care needs, diet, nutrition, and exercise programs, and self‑administration of medication and therapy. The RN provides direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides regarding patient care and delegates when appropriate. The RN supports efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills, precepts new hire staff and students, assists staff and students in completing competency tasks, and continually enhances knowledge in nursing management and patient care as required. The RN may continue to improve patient outcomes and care quality. Essential Functions Collect and systematically analyze health data, prioritize collection, involve family, and develop evidence‑based, family‑centered plans of care. Identify individualized outcomes and develop tailored plans that reflect current nursing practice, ensure continuity, and remain family‑centered. Implement interventions, initiate treatments and medications, and perform emergency and resuscitative measures per standing orders and policies while meeting physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural needs. Evaluate patient progress, document observations and interventions, and ongoingly assess the quality and effectiveness of care plans to enhance outcomes. Evaluate personal practice against professional standards and regulations, maintaining current knowledge and advancing practice quality. Integrate ethical principles and enhance knowledge of culture and diversity needs for specific populations. Collaborate with peers and healthcare providers for professional development, positive role‑modeling, and mentorship activities. Work with multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care delivery. Develop and evaluate evidence‑based standards of care, identify necessary changes, and support research and evidence‑based practice initiatives. Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost factors when delivering patient care, utilizing resources efficiently. Education Other / Certificate: All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5 or more years of RN experience at hire. Required. Associate or Diploma in Nursing: All staff with direct responsibility for stroke patient care must meet stroke‑specific education requirements prior to start. Required. Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN): Preferred. Experience Other: >10 months in med‑surg or acute specialty setting. Required. 1 year RN experience for all Float positions. Required. License and Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) – Certification required; unit‑specific certification as required by specialty area. Required. Registered Nurse (RN) – State or Compact State Licensure in Arizona upon hire. Required. National certification for unit‑specific patient population. Preferred.
