Job Title: Dean of Students

Reports to: Director
Professional Objective
The Dean of Students serves as the primary resource for students at East West College. Balancing the responsibilities to advocate for students and to enforce College policies and procedures, the Dean of Students monitors student progress and works with students to support their successful completion of the program. Through modeling clear and open communication, professional boundaries and healthy relationships, the Dean of Students supports students in their development as professional massage therapists and in their growth as human beings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
College Policies and Procedures
- Serve as primary information source for students on EWC policies and procedures
- Provide assistance to students who wish to appeal EWC policies or procedures
- Record and investigate complaints of violations of EWC policies and procedures
- Meet with students who have violated EWC non-academic policies
- Place students on non-academic warning or probation as appropriate
- Make recommendations for dismissal of students as needed
Student Support
- Work with students with learning or other disabilities to identify and implement learning accommodation plans
- Coordinate or administer oral tests to student with disabilities as needed
- Review and respond to student appeals, in consultation with the Director
- Review, investigate and respond to student complaints
- Assist students in resolving conflict with classmates, faculty or staff
- Provide short-term support for students experiencing difficulties in the classroom (organization, time management, study skills)
- Provide short-term support for students experiencing personal challenges
- Provide referrals for on-going counseling
- Work with students who wish to change their enrollment status (withdraw, change programs, take a leave of absence) in consultation with the Registrar
- Organize and lead new student orientation sessions, in conjunction with Director and Director of Education
- Organize and lead end of program events, in conjunction with Director and Director of Education
- Organize and fulfill requests for EWC Lending Library Program
- Organize and administer student support activities (networking groups, end of term activities, newsletter, etc.)
Academic Issues
- Monitor academic progress for all students in consultation with the Registrar
- Review and respond to academic appeals, in consultation with the Director
- Develop and implement programs to support academic success for all students
- Identify students eligible for tutoring, and distribute tutoring information and vouchers as appropriate
- Work with students who have been placed on academic probation to develop plans for successful program completion
Attendance
- Monitor attendance for all students in consultation with the Registrar
- Meet with students who have a pattern of absences or tardiness and place them on academic warning or probation if appropriate
- Work with students who are experiencing barriers to attending to provide support and to assist them in getting caught up with schoolwork
Classroom Support
- Maintain and distribute list of massage evaluators
- Hire and supervise non-faculty tutors
- Maintain and distribute list of tutors
- Oversee written make-up exams
- Provide support for students in scheduling practical make-up exams as needed
- Provide support to faculty members in classroom management issues, communication issues or individual student concerns
Resources
- Review and revise the Student Handbook, in consultation with the Director
- Maintain and distribute information about school resources
- Maintain and distribute information about community resources, including transportation, events, support networks
Campus Security
- Inform EWC community of crimes on campus
- Report on campus security statistics to USDOE
- Create and distribute annual campus security report
- Respond to Title IX or VAWA complaints in cooperation with the Director
Leadership and Teamwork
- Model the Colleges core values
- Communicate concerns for the College to management
- Meet weekly with the Director
- Attend EWC staff meetings
- Attend EWC faculty meetings
- Participate in on-going professional development
- Actively participate in the staff evaluation process
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Classification of Position
Part-time (24-28 hours/week), exempt

Education and Experience
- Degree in counseling, academic advising or social work
- 3-5 years experience in a similar position
- Experience with massage and bodywork preferred

Work Environment
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior office environment.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
