Director, Clinical Trial Finance

Position Summary The Director, Clinical Trial Finance leads financial planning and oversight of clinical trial activities, including accruals, across the company’s development portfolio. Reporting to the Executive Director, FP&A, the role partners with Clinical Operations, Development, FP&A, and Accounting to ensure strong financial governance, accurate reporting, and actionable insights for decision‑making. Job Responsibilities Drive financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning for clinical trials; oversee financial management across programs, including accruals and variance analysis. Manage financial terms of clinical trial contracts and amendments, ensuring compliance. Partner with Accounting to ensure accurate and timely financial close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting of trial costs. Act as primary finance business partner to Clinical Operations, Development, and Program Management, providing insights and ad-hoc reports to support decisions. Maintain relationships with Contract Research Organizations (CROs), vendors, and external partners. Collaborate across the Clinical organization to define key financial drivers, timelines, and milestones for trials. Lead audit readiness and support internal and external audits related to trial expenditures. Continuously improve financial processes, systems, and internal controls to support scalability and operational excellence. Qualifications 10+ years of finance experience, including 7+ years in progressive finance and accounting roles, with significant experience supporting clinical trials in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals. Deep industry knowledge of clinical development, financial drivers, and industry dynamics. Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX compliance, accrual accounting, and clinical trial financial management. Proven leadership with a track record of building and developing high‑performing teams. Advanced financial modeling and forecasting capabilities, including scenario planning. Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem‑solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, influencing cross‑functional stakeholders. Proficiency with financial systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Experience Experience supporting global clinical trials and managing financials across multiple currencies. Experience with NetSuite, Zip, and Condor. Strong project‑management skills, managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Education Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (required). CPA or MBA (preferred). Travel Required Occasional travel may be required based on business needs. Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $205,000 - $250,000, plus an annual performance incentive bonus, new‑hire equity, and ongoing performance‑based equity.
