Heavy Equipment Operator I

Position Overview Heavy Equipment Operator I – responsible for a range of construction and maintenance tasks across University grounds and surrounding areas. Duties are performed primarily from spring through fall, with occasional assignments year‑round. Key Responsibilities Excavate, grade, and perform site preparation for construction and landscaping projects. Qualifications & Credentials High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3 years of professional construction experience. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and operate heavy equipment in a typical Virginia climate. Valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean driving record; liability insurance required for company vehicles. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills. Professional appearance and courteous demeanor. Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and work with the public and coworkers. Abilities & Competencies Effective verbal and written communication in English. Problem‑solving ability, logical reasoning, and sound judgment. Physical stamina to stand, walk, climb stairs, kneel, and perform outdoor work in varying weather. Reliability, punctuality, and adaptability to unscheduled hours during emergencies and special events. Team orientation and commitment to campus mission. Work Conditions & Requirements Indoor/outdoor work with exposure to weather, dust, fumes, and loud noise. Frequent travel to on‑campus and off‑campus locations. May work weekends, holidays, and evenings as required. Compliance with all safety regulations and PPE policies. Employment Terms Full time, onsite position at Liberty University.
