Description The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure due to funding), with an anticipated but flexible start date of October 1, 2026. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. Faculty will join our faculty on a full‑time basis for a twelve‑month service period (July 1 – June 30), with an initial appointment term of 3 years, renewable. Faculty with 12‑month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12‑month period (July‑June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. Faculty appointed WOT are in a non‑tenure track because all or part of their annual University‑administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated state funds. Except for this distinction, WOT faculty members have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as tenure track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. Compensation The base salary range for this position will be $8,000 – $10,830 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. The successful candidate will be expected to be an active participant in the teaching, research, and scholarship of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine’s Division of Physical Therapy and to contribute to the mission of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. Instructional duties may include, but are not limited to, serving as instructor of record or assistant for foundational courses related to neuroscience and evidence‑based practice and applied coursework related to neurologic and geriatric physical therapy. Specific topics of instruction may include, but are not limited to, research design and conduct; neurophysiology, neuroimaging, and neuromodulation technologies; movement analysis in neurologic populations, and evidence‑based treatment for people with neurologic conditions, including multiple sclerosis and age‑related cognitive decline. Opportunities to serve as a research capstone advisor and to mentor students in the PhD Program in Rehabilitation Science and clinical residency programs are also available. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with existing research teams and will be expected to develop, establish, and maintain an independently funded research program. The ideal candidate will have research interests aligned with neurologic rehabilitation and may contribute to expanding the Division’s research portfolio in areas such as multiple sclerosis and related neurologic conditions, with opportunities to collaborate with the University of Washington Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue extramural funding, including career development or transition awards (e.g., NMSS, NIH K‑series, K99/R00, VA Career Development Award), to support the development of an independent research program. The position is primarily based at the University of Washington‑Montlake Campus. The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill requirements for advancement along the Clinician‑Scientist pathway of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine. Qualifications have an academic doctoral degree (PhD or foreign equivalent) in Rehabilitation Science or a relevant field and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice as a physical therapist in the State of Washington have teaching expertise in a doctor of physical therapy or related program demonstration of an established research agenda that includes publications in peer‑reviewed journals, evidence of success in securing extramural peer‑reviewed research funding, and strong potential for future grantsmanship and research leadership Benefits Information The University is committed to providing excellent benefits to our faculty.
