Founding Engineer, Computational Geometry and CAD Kernel

MimoLabs builds Mimo, an agentic system for making physical things. We are a VC funded, experienced technical team, based at Newlab in Detroit and remote across the US.

THE PROBLEM YOU WOULD OWN

Mimo's parametric CAD is code on a B-rep kernel, with custom solvers and analysis engines. You will build new methods and additions into the pipeline.

• The kernel. Topology, tolerances, performance and conventions.

• Feature trees and selection. The link between a design's code and the geometry it produces.

• Imports and assemblies. Exact geometry interchange; multi-body assemblies with joints, motion and collision.

• Mesh geometry. Repair, booleans, offsets and collision.

• Manufacturing processes. Process-specific geometry checks and estimation for additive and subtractive processes.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR

• 5+ years in computational geometry, CAD data processing or kernel development.

• B-rep kernel experience (OpenCascade, Parasolid, ACIS or equivalent), including kernel internals and the underlying math.

• Code-first CAD (CadQuery, build123d or equivalent).

• Computational geometry on meshes: booleans, repair to watertight, remeshing, collision and robust predicates (CGAL, libigl, Manifold or equivalent).

• CAD interchange formats (STEP, IGES, 3MF, STL, OBJ) and their conversion problems.

• Python and C++.

NICE TO HAVE

• Rust (strong plus).

• Feature trees and history-based modeling internals; feature recognition on B-rep.

• Slicing, toolpaths or print estimation; additive and subtractive process knowledge; design for manufacturing.

• 2D constraint solvers; FEA meshing; implicit modeling and signed distance fields.

• GPU geometry (CUDA or OpenCL).

• Contributions to OCCT, CadQuery, build123d, CGAL, libigl or Manifold.

Everyone runs several AI coding agents using our custom dev tooling within a proven process. You have the freedom to expand your own tooling and influence how we build and ship fast. Kernel depth matters most for this role; prior experience with coding agents is not required.
