Position Type: Extra Duty Pay Range – as per the RE-1 Valley Schools Extra Duty Salary Schedule. Salary schedule details: Seasonal stipend: $1,327 to be paid at the end of the season. Job Summary The football coach is responsible for coaching middle school student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for interscholastic football competitions. The position motivates student‑athletes to develop an appreciation for the sport. Essential Duties Hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to participate in the sport. Assess player skills and assign team positions. Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development. Work with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition. Coach and instruct players, individually and in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Observe players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Determine game strategy based on the team's capabilities. Establish and maintain standards of decorum and provide proper supervision of athletes at all times. Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met, and encourage student‑athletes to maintain a high academic standard. Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury. Confer with parents or guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student. Adhere to state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program. Model sports‑like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators. Act as a team representative and promote the sport by communicating with booster clubs, service clubs, community groups, and other organizations. Follow established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Work with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submit a list of award winners at the end of the season. Participate in special activities, including fundraising, parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep rallies and assemblies. Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Other Duties Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal and Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator. Required Qualifications Must be 21 years of age or older. High School Diploma or equivalent. Complete and submit an RE-1 Valley Schools online application along with 3 letters of reference. Willing and able to drive to away games, camps, scrimmages. Knowledgeable in the techniques and strategies for the sport/activity. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions from the athletic director. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with students, parents, staff, and the community. Ability to handle stressful situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters. Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and board policies. Ability to manage time and responsibilities effectively. Other qualifications as deemed necessary by the athletic director. Preferred Qualifications At least 3 years of coaching experience. Knowledge of all aspects of school sports activity programming. Proven leadership qualities and successful experience in working with junior high school students. Background or experience in coaching football. Physical Requirements Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; have physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.
