Brewer

Mare Island Brewing Co., located on Mare Island in Vallejo, CA on the banks of the Napa River and recently voted " Best Brewery of the Bay Area " in 2026's SF GATE reader poll, is searching for an experienced Brewer to add to our ranks.

Our Coal Shed Brewery is located on the waterfront on the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Commissioned in 2017, we transformed this historic Navy coal shed into an 8,000 sq. ft brewery, taproom and event space to complement our Vallejo Ferry Terminal Taproom and Benicia First Street Taphouse locations.

We brew on a 15bbl Prospero brewhouse and 1bbl Blichmann pilot system . We can with a CODI 6-head counter-pressure filling canning line with depalletizer and in-line labeler. We have an awesome, tight-knit and dedicated production team. We are self-distributed throughout the Bay with over 300 current and active accounts. We have plenty of brewing fun to be done, the only piece we need to add at this point is you.

The Brewer position at Mare Island Brewing Co. has room for growth and will report directly to the Brewing Manager.

Job Type : Full-time, 40+ hours/week
Pay : $20-25/hr, depending on experience

Responsibilities :

• Wort production on both our 15bbl brewhouse and 1bbl pilot system
• Cellar operations — tank CIP, fermentation checks, dry hopping, yeast harvesting, keg washing
• Fining and transferring beer with a keen eye towards low DO pickup
• Packaging — both on the canning line and kegging
• Quality control
• Inventory control
• Assist with recipe development
• Laboratory controls / yeast cell counts
• Equipment upkeep and preventative maintenance
• Facility maintenance
• Special projects as requested by management: tap line maintenance, pouring beers at beer club parties, event setup, etc.

Requirements:

• 2+ years of professional brewing experience
• Relevant education preferred, but not necessary — Cicerone certification or brewing diploma a plus
• Strong attention to detail
• 21+ years old
• You must love beer and believe in its life-changing abilities
• Computer proficiency with excellent communication skills — Excel, Word, Email
• Ability to pivot at a moment's notice responding to daily changes
• Experience packaging beer
• Sensory skills a plus
• Strong mechanical knowledge
• Team oriented
• A passion for cleanliness
• Meticulous record keeping
• Ability to lift/maneuver up to 165lbs (full 1/2bbl keg)
• Forklift experience
• Great sense of humor always welcomed
