Embedded Firmware Engineer
This is a contract position scheduled for 9 months
and is 100% onsite Monday through Friday in Schaumburg, IL . I'm currently supporting a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer opportunity focused on developing next-generation secure NFC/RFID credential reader products.
Embedded Firmware, Modern C++ (C++17+), STM32/ARM Cortex-M, RTOS (Zephyr preferred), Device Drivers, USB, SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO/DMA, NFC/RFID. We're seeking engineers with strong embedded firmware experience and a passion for working close to the hardware. This role involves designing and implementing production firmware in Modern C++ (C++17+), developing low-level drivers, and building real-time functionality on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
Key responsibilities include:
• Developing firmware for STM32-based platforms • Creating and maintaining drivers for USB, SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, and DMA • Designing RTOS-based software components and state machines • Optimizing memory, timing, power, and overall system performance • Enhancing USB functionality for secure credential reader applications • Troubleshooting, debugging, and validating firmware in production environments • Collaborating with a team of embedded engineers to deliver secure, reliable products
Ideal candidates will have:
• 5+ years of embedded firmware development experience • Strong C++ experience (C++17+ preferred) • RTOS experience (Zephyr preferred) • ARM Cortex-M or STM32 development experience • Device driver development experience • Strong understanding of USB, SPI, I2C, and UART interfaces
Location: Schaumburg, IL (100% onsite Monday-Friday) Duration: Initial 9-month contract with potential for extension and future long-term opportunities with the client.
