Under the supervision of a physician or nurse, will assist with direct patient care during procedures and assist the physicians with necessary equipment used during colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, as well as other ancillary procedures performed in the Mayo Clinic endoscopy procedural areas. Is responsible for multiple patient care roles and duties outside of the procedure room including recovery room, and endoscope reprocessing rooms. Sites with the Endoscopy Technician I position are also responsible for maintaining competency in current endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfecting. Is expected to perform in a dynamic and changing environment with changes in daily assignments at short notice. Patient care and teamwork is the priority. Must be able to function independently and possess equipment troubleshooting skills in the procedural area, as well as following established procedure guidelines. Commitment to endoscopy is required.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (GED). Minimum one year Endoscopy Technician I experience or two years direct patient care experience - OR - one year central service/sterile processing technician and 6 months of direct patient care experience. Knowledge of or experience with electronic applications. Knowledge in surgical or central service functions, including high-level disinfection process and intravenous catheterization, phlebotomy and/or GI endoscopy equipment and procedures. Endoscopy Technician I experience as needed. Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant program, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, Phlebotomy Technician program or equivalent health care experience. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to follow written and verbal directions and multi-tasking. Ability to work independently and/or in a team setting. Experience performing multiple tasks within a work shift. Works flexible hours to meet the demands of the work unit. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Excellent communication skills. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required within 60 days of hire.
