Description:

The nurse's practice is guided by the Code of Ethics. Professional behavior includes maintaining respectful interactions with colleagues. Decision-making for patients is conducted in an ethical manner. Patient confidentiality is maintained within legal and regulatory parameters. The nurse acts as a patient advocate and assists patients in developing self-advocacy skills. Care is delivered in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner, preserving patient autonomy. Utilization of the nursing process is assessed through direct observation, peer reviews, audits, and documentation. Successful completion of physical assessments is essential. Diagnoses and outcome identification are established through careful planning. Implementation and evaluation of care plans are performed according to standards. Nurses use quality of care and performance improvement activities to initiate changes in practice. Clinical data is collected to monitor the quality and effectiveness of nursing care. The nurse identifies aspects of care for quality monitoring and recommends practice improvements. Participation in the development and implementation of policies and practice guidelines is required. Active involvement in interdisciplinary teams that evaluate clinical practice or health services is essential. Indicators for improvement are independently identified, and solutions are proposed. Findings from studies and audits are shared with colleagues. Outstanding customer service is prioritized, and relationships are maintained respectfully. The nurse collaborates with patients, families, and other healthcare providers. Documentation is monitored for appropriate referrals, ensuring continuity of care. The nurse formulates care plans involving patients in the decision-making process. Diagnostic data interpretation related to patient age and condition is required. Responses to emergency situations, such as Code Blue and other alerts, are expected. Critical information is communicated effectively to primary care physicians using standardized formats. The nurse's role includes leading a team in the care of compromised patients. Clear communication with the medical team and adherence to orders is necessary. Assistance with patient transport and care continues until successful handoff. Debriefings are conducted with involved nurses to provide feedback and education. The nurse serves as a resource for all RNs on duty. Daily rounds are made for at-risk patients in in-patient settings. Flexibility to assist in various critical care areas as requested is expected. Involvement in quality improvement initiatives and data collection is required. The nurse conducts in-services to promote education related to emergency situations. Continued education in the Rapid Response Team field is encouraged. Demonstration of knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient population served is essential. Effective communication and care for patients and families are prioritized based on their needs.
