Job Description

The Parts Counterperson / Counter Sales Associate manages the sales counter at a wholesale HVAC distributorship, supporting multiple brands of equipment, parts, and supplies. This role focuses on delivering excellent customer service in a sales-driven environment while supporting inventory control, warranty administration, and safe warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide strong customer service to walk-in and telephone customers by identifying product and service needs and offering timely, accurate support.

• Interact daily with internal and outside sales teams, vendors, and contractors to coordinate orders, resolve issues, and support ongoing business relationships.

• Complete the full sales order process for customers, including order entry, product selection, and payment handling, while actively up-selling associated items.

• Assist customers with sourcing parts by using computer systems, catalogs, telephone, and other reference tools to research products and verify availability.

• Support shipping and logistics by coordinating the shipment of parts and equipment, ensuring accurate order fulfillment and on-time delivery.

• Assist with inventory control by helping to track stock levels, identify shortages, and maintain accurate records using RF scanners and related tools.

• Handle warranty administration by processing claims, coordinating with vendors or manufacturers, and communicating outcomes to customers.

• Merchandise the showroom by arranging stock on shelves or racks, restocking products, and keeping merchandise organized and presentable.

• Apply suggestive selling techniques to promote complementary products and services to current and prospective customers.

• Conduct outgoing customer sales or service calls to follow up on orders, address concerns, and resolve customer complaints professionally.

• Assist in resolving customer relations issues with both dealers and end users, ensuring a positive experience and long-term customer loyalty.

• Perform general material handling tasks, including picking, packing, and moving parts and equipment as needed to support daily operations.

• Operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks safely and in accordance with company procedures.

• Adhere to all company safety protocols and procedures, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Report any safety hazards, near-misses, or incidents immediately to management and participate in investigations as needed.

• Participate in regular safety training sessions and drills to stay current with safety practices and regulatory requirements.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace to prevent accidents and injuries.

• Follow all guidelines for the safe handling, storage, and movement of products, including heavy or bulky items.

• Maintain a professional and safety-conscious demeanor during all customer and coworker interactions.

• Operate computer and telephone equipment for extended periods to process orders, communicate with customers, and manage documentation.

• Complete required computer-based training prior to starting the job and participate in ongoing training as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall efficiency and success of the branch.

Essential Skills

• Proven customer service experience in a sales or counter service environment.

• Demonstrated experience with HVAC equipment in a wholesale distribution setting.

• Hands-on experience with inventory, including picking, packing, and general material handling.

• Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks safely and effectively.

• Experience using RF scanners or similar inventory control tools.

• Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service, problem-solving, and relationship-building.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools, with the ability to learn new computer systems.

• Ability to move parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly.

• Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed to access equipment and inventory.

• Sufficient visual acuity to read labels, inspect equipment, monitor inventory, and operate machinery safely.

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent experience.

• Valid driver’s license if driving is an essential function of the role at the specific location.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in sales, operations, purchasing, or inventory management is preferred.

• Mechanical or technical experience, particularly related to HVAC systems or equipment, is preferred.

• Demonstrated interest in continuous learning, mentoring, and leadership development.

• Experience working in a wholesale or distribution environment is beneficial.

• Comfort using catalogs, online tools, and telephone resources to research products and solutions.

• Ability to apply suggestive selling and up-selling techniques in a professional and customer-focused manner.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when handling orders, inventory, and documentation.

Work Environment

This role is based in a wholesale HVAC distribution facility that includes both a showroom and warehouse environment. You will work a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some overtime during weekdays as business needs require. The position involves frequent movement, including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling to access equipment and inventory. You will regularly move parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. The role requires extended use of computers and telephones to process orders and communicate with customers. Visual acuity is important for reading labels, inspecting equipment, monitoring inventory, and safely operating machinery, including close and distance vision, color differentiation, peripheral awareness, depth perception, and focus. The work environment emphasizes safety, with clear protocols, required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and regular safety training. You must complete computer-based training before starting and maintain a clean, organized workspace to support both efficiency and safety.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Hilton Head Island, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $19.00/hr.
