Job Summary:

Psychological Health initiative under the Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (PH/TBI) program. The program seeks to address gaps in the care available for the prevalent injuries among combatants from the global war on terrorism. Through adoption of risk based staffing models and a uniform, best practice standard of care across DOD, the program seeks to ensure easy, rapid access to PH and TBI care for all beneficiaries and to ensure that transition across networks of care recognizes the unique care coordination and case management requirements for PH and TBI patients.

Requirements:

• Perform a full range of clinical psychologist procedures in accordance with clinical privileges granted by the Commanding Officer.
• Administer programs of treatment to mentally and emotionally disturbed individual adjustments to life; help medical and surgical patients deal with illnesses or injuries.
• Assist in treating rehabilitation patients.
• Treat individuals in times of personal crisis such as a divorce or death of a loved one.
• Interview patients and study medical and social case histories.
• Diagnose and evaluate mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administer programs of treatment.
• Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
• Participate in the Command's Bloodborne Pathogen Program, including orientation, annual training, and exposure procedures.
• Comply with the CDC's "Universal Precautions" for prevention of the transmission of HIV.
• Practice aseptic techniques as necessary.
• Function with an awareness and application of safety procedures.
• Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
• Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
• Participate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed.
• Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, as identified within the institution.
• Maintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
• Participate in continuing education to meet own professional growth.
• Attend annual renewal of hospital provided annual training such as family advocacy, disaster training, infection control, sexual harassment, and bloodborne pathogens.
• Actively participate in the command's performance improvement program.
• Participate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members.
• Attend and participate in various meetings as directed.
• Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
• Use computerized systems such as CHCS, AHLTA, ADS, and Clinical Information System (CIS).
• Operate and manipulate automated systems such as CHCS, AHLTA, participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions
• Exercise appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.
• Shall comply with the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) privacy and security policies of the treatment facility. Providers shall obtain/maintain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) in accordance with DOD and MTF policy/instruction as applicable.

Qualifications:

• Possess a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from a university accredited by the American Psychological Association.
• Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license or certification to practice as a psychologist in any one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
• Have experience as a Psychologist of at least two years within the preceding 36 months.
• Shall read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently and maintain good communication skills with patients and other health care personnel.
• shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and capable of normal ambulation.
• Shall be in good standing and under no sanction or suspension by the federal government.
• In order to carry out the duties required by the contract, only those who are U.S. citizens can be granted access to Department of Navy
• Shall be in good standing, and under no restrictions, with the state licensure board in any state in which a license is held or has been held within the last 10 years.
• shall maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; client CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer; or equivalent.
• Shall be current with and have completed all continuing education requirements specified by their professional licensure or certification.
