Clinical Applications Associate - LIS/Pathology

Summary

Provides application system design, building, testing and implementation of the Pathology LIS, PACS system and other critical applications. This includes analytical, educational and system support for laboratory modules, upgrades, interfaces, case types and enhancements. This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of the Clinical and Pathologic Laboratories technical operations and their dynamic integration with information technology systems.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (On-site during onboarding) - This role is structured as a hybrid position. To ensure full support, close collaboration, and a smooth ramp-up, the role begins 100% on-site during the initial training and onboarding period. Transition to our standard hybrid schedule occurs organically as you get acclimated, master core systems, and demonstrate independent proficiency in day-to-day operations.

Schedule & Availability: Standard business hours with participation in an after-hours and weekend on-call rotation to ensure continuous support for laboratory workflows. 

Job Duties

Pathology/LIS-Specific

• Supports LIS and digital pathology workflows through issue identification and resolution.
• Assists with maintaining pathology application functionality and workflow continuity.
• Supports case accessioning, digital imaging, and laboratory application workflows.
• Monitors and resolves issues related to pathology system queues, logs, and data processing. 

Core Support

• Supports clinical applications by troubleshooting issues and assisting end users.
• Provides day-to-day support for laboratory and clinical information systems.
• Investigates and resolves application issues to maintain operational efficiency.
• Assists with the maintenance and support of clinical and laboratory software systems. 

Troubleshooting & Operations

• Monitors application workflows and resolves system-related issues.
• Supports user access, application configuration, and incident resolution.
• Assists with troubleshooting interfaces, system errors, and workflow disruptions.
• Performs routine application support activities to ensure system reliability.

Testing & Upgrades

• Participates in application testing, upgrades, and implementation activities.
• Assists with validating system changes and documenting test results.
• Supports software deployments and post-implementation troubleshooting. 

Users & Documentation

• Provides end-user training and support for clinical applications.
• Creates and maintains application documentation and support materials.
• Works with clinical and technical teams to resolve application-related concerns. 
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement. 
• Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Histo Technology, Cyto Technology or Computer Science.
• At least 2 years of IT experience with at least 1 year of experience working with a LIS.
• MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP).
• Expert knowledge of the Laboratory Department and LIS information flow.
• Working knowledge of various aspects of Lab operations and specialties such as Microbiology, Pathology, etc.
• Familiarity with Epic EHR, Sectra PACs, and VitalAxis LIS a plus.
• Working Knowledge of HL7 and Lab Device Interfaces.
• Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 suite.
• Exceptional verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Excellent problem solving skills.
