• FT weekdays 4x9s (0630/0730 - 1530/1630)
• Weekend/holiday on call rotation required
• Call rotation includes 1 weekday of call per week and ~3 full weekends of call during contract

Required Certifications

• ACLS, BLS, PALS (all through AHA or RQI only)
• NIHSS required
• NYS RN Licensure

Position Overview

• All agency staff will be expected to float between Geneva General Hospital and Finger Lakes Surgery Center
• The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families
• The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient need, develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates the care delivery throughout the patient's episode
• The OR RN develops specialized skill in the area of patient admitted for medical conditions
• Provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions
• The Endo RN is accountable for patient family education to assist in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing
• The OR Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a Healing Environment

Key Responsibilities

• Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care
• Assesses patient / family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness (being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do), and analyzing data or information obtained through direct observation/assessment, technology, or health team communication
• Creates a developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of the health problems identified
• In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors the patient's progress
• The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition/reprioritization of needs
• Promotes, advocates for and protects the health, safety and rights of the patient
• Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcome
• Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice
• Understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies
• Motivates the patient/family by teaching them what is needed to continue care/healing at home
• Assesses the patient/family learning styles and structures the sessions to maximize understanding
• Seeks "teachable" moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information
• Asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process
• Provides tools and information to assist the patient's family after discharge
• Documents the education provided and the patient/family response to the education
• Systematically evaluates quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and care delivery
• Engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial
• Takes accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill
• Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
• Nursing practice reflects the importance of making a meaningful connection with patient/family
• Seeks to develop a helping, trusting, and caring relationship by being present in the moment of interaction, listening, communicating, engaging, and anticipating the patient/family needs
