Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

Key Responsibilities

• Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices as medically prescribed
• Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, and pulmonary function studies
• Perform arterial puncture, 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and routine review of patient chest x-rays
• Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines ; perform endotracheal tube insertion and removal via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope
• Document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift handoff rounds

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license or certification valid in the state of Wisconsin
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• Ability to operate and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment with minimal supervision
• Experience performing arterial blood gas analysis and interpreting ventilation efficiency

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols
• Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage procedures
• Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
