Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Metals Maintenance Manager to lead all aspects of maintenance operations within a metals manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for supervising maintenance personnel, overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance programs, improving equipment reliability, minimizing production downtime, and ensuring safe and efficient operations.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, proven leadership abilities, and experience managing maintenance budgets, equipment reliability initiatives, and continuous improvement programs in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Leadership & Management

• Lead, supervise, train, coach, and develop a high-performing maintenance team.

• Provide leadership and oversight to technical maintenance teams, ensuring operational efficiency and achievement of departmental objectives.

• Manage employee performance, conduct evaluations, address performance concerns, and develop succession plans.

• Establish departmental priorities, allocate resources, and coordinate workloads based on operational needs and production schedules.

• Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and communication processes.

• Collaborate with production, engineering, reliability, and operations leadership to improve maintenance effectiveness.

• Identify opportunities for employee development, technical training, and process improvement.

• Participate in operational meetings and provide updates on maintenance performance, equipment reliability, and departmental initiatives.

• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

• Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance programs for complex metals manufacturing equipment.

• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and reliability teams to establish standardized maintenance strategies.

• Improve equipment reliability, extend asset life, and minimize unplanned downtime.

• Support the development and implementation of predictive maintenance strategies.

• Oversee equipment repairs, maintenance projects, work orders, and daily maintenance activities.

• Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and according to established specifications and operational standards.

• Manage the work order process, ensuring accurate documentation, timely completion, and continuous improvement.

• Monitor maintenance performance metrics and recommend improvements to equipment reliability and maintenance efficiency.

• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal departments to ensure timely maintenance services.

• Identify recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent future disruptions.

Budget & Resource Management

• Develop and manage the annual maintenance department budget, including staffing, equipment, materials, and operating expenses.

• Monitor departmental expenditures and ensure spending remains within approved budgets.

• Forecast short- and long-term maintenance needs and recommend appropriate resource allocations.

• Assist with purchasing equipment, maintenance supplies, services, and necessary licenses.

• Optimize maintenance resources, control operating costs, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.

• Evaluate maintenance investments based on operational priorities, cost effectiveness, and return on investment.

Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations.

• Enforce company safety policies, procedures, and established maintenance standards.

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment.

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma principles and other recognized improvement methodologies.

• Evaluate existing maintenance processes and implement strategies to improve productivity, equipment performance, and operational reliability.

• Work with cross-functional teams to identify operational challenges, develop solutions, and implement corrective actions.

• Promote best practices in maintenance management, equipment reliability, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Previous maintenance management or supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

• Strong knowledge of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.

• Experience maintaining complex industrial manufacturing equipment; metals manufacturing experience preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and develop technical maintenance teams.

• Experience managing departmental budgets, maintenance expenses, and resource allocation.

• Strong understanding of industrial safety standards and regulatory compliance.

• Experience with maintenance work order systems, equipment reliability programs, and performance metrics.

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies preferred.

• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, production, operations, and other departments.
