Food Service Area Supervisor- Child Nutrition

Leads, develops, monitors and reports on foodservice and child nutrition programmatic operations in compliance with USDA and KCMO Health Department guidelines. Ensures staff readiness and competence by providing continued education, effective site supervision and proactively partnering with other district staff to appropriately and timely resolve concerns.

Leadership, People Management & Workforce Development

• Conduct annual evaluations of managers and ensure managers properly complete employee evaluations.
• Plans and delivers staff training and professional development aligned to departmental needs and workforce growth.
• Actively recruits/retains quality foodservice staff and ensures sites are adequately staffed.
• Partners with departmental leadership to identify growth areas and implement individualized training plans and supportive corrective actions.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, principals, and administration to attain measurable progress and systems enhancements.
• Fosters an engaging, supportive work environment and coaches managers to enhance leadership, accountability, and team performance.

Operations, Program Management & Customer Service

• Leads daily Child Nutrition operations, including USDA-compliant meal planning, food production, service quality, and workplace safety.
• Conducts kitchen evaluations, approves food and supply orders, and coordinates equipment and facility needs.
• Analyzes participation, labor, inventory, and financial data to identify trends and implement efficiency-focused improvements.
• Ensures effective use of POS, ordering, inventory, production, and payroll systems and provides related training.
• Serves as primary liaison to assigned schools, collaborates with principals and community partners, and leads strategies to improve participation, meal quality, and customer experience.
• Develops strategies to increase student meal participation and gathers feedback to improve meal quality, customer service, and overall program outcomes.
• Ability to work as an on-site essential staff member during emergency closures.
• Utilize operational data to identify trends and implement corrective actions that improve efficiency and program outcomes.

Compliance, Safety & Administrative Oversight

• Maintains complete, audit-ready records for program operations, staff training, and USDA documentation.
• Conducts administrative and on-site reviews to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
• Manages payroll for assigned staff and supports administrative documentation needs.
• Reports safety concerns, supports HR investigations, and ensures adherence to sanitation, nutritional, and free/reduced meal program standards.
• Supports state and federal reviews, audits, and corrective action plans and monitors certification and training compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.

To Be Successful at This Job, You'll Need To: (Minimum Qualifications)

• Minimum 3-5 years successful experience in management and supervision, related to food preparation and service.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and use of an automobile.
• Ability to obtain SNS professional credentialing.
• Ability to obtain ServSafe Manager certification.

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Hospitality, or related field.
• Experience working in Public Education
• Experience managing USDA programs.
• Experience leading multi-site foodservice operations.
