Psychiatric Recreation Technician (p/t) - Days

Description Three 8‑hour shifts; Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays on week one and then Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays on week two. Summary To provide care to patients with behavioral and substance disorders as it relates to recreational and occupational therapy. Responsibilities Provide patient care as directed by the registered nurse within scope of practice. Plan and direct recreation‑therapy groups and activities for psychiatric and addiction patients. Meet with patients individually to assess and make recommendations to the treatment team regarding patient issues. Recognize and report issues related to patient safety, including homicidal and suicidal behavior, as well as symptoms of escalating behavior. Assess learning needs related to occupational/recreational therapy for patients/family/ significant others. Plan and provide appropriate instruction related to leisure activities, relaxation therapy, distraction techniques, and alternate, effective coping skills. Document education given as well as patient’s response. Provide at least one in‑service to staff related to recreational therapy and patient care. Attend at least two in‑services related to patient‑care issues and psychiatry. Maintain educational record. Perform other duties as assigned. Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position. Education and Experience Minimum: Associate’s Degree in Recreational Therapy. Minimum Experience: zero to six months.
