To ensure the reflection and communication of a positive image and attitude toward decisions and functions of the district as they relate to the public, staff, parents, and students. To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self‑esteem. Qualifications Holds valid Mississippi teacher certification. Demonstrates skill and experience in the respective sport. Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication. Displays ability to work with staff, students, parents, and the general public. Is certified in CPR. Holds current CDL with proper endorsements. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Reports To: Athletic Director Performance Responsibilities Plans regularly scheduled practice sessions and activities designed to maximize the skill level of the individual athlete within the confines of district and state policies and regulations. Teaches the fundamentals of the game and the personal characteristics required by the demands of the sport. Interacts with building and district administration to schedule competitive activities within the confines of district and state guidelines. Is responsible for the welfare and safety of athletes at practice, during competition and while teaching; includes responsibility for students while on road trips and beyond game time (e.g., motels, restaurants, before and after games, and while on school property). Must attend safety and legal workshops sponsored by the district (e.g., CPR, first aid). Cooperates with the press and other public entities to represent the program and the school district in a positive manner. Complies with all rules and regulations of the MHSAA and Houston School District, and the athletic handbook. Attends appropriate meetings and serves on committees as requested by the Building Administrator. Orders, inventories and maintains equipment and facilities in cooperation with the Athletic Director within the allotted budget. Maintains a direct line of communication with administration. Maintains high standards, ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. Exemplifies strong work ethics and professionalism (e.g., promptness, attendance and professional dress). Other Duties Performs all other duties as assigned. Terms of Employment The salary and length of contract shall be established by the Board of Education. Evaluation Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the High School Principal in accordance with approved board policy.
