Senior Personnel Specialist

Under the general direction of the Supervisor I this is the expert journey level position with the incumbent performing the more difficult and complex personnel/payroll transactions. Duties may also include, but are not limited to, working in a team environment as coordinator for a variety of statewide personnel/payroll programs. Serves as single point of contact (SPOC) for dental and vision discrepancies. Incumbent serves as the expert staff resource, responsible for independently researching critical personnel problems and recommending alternative solutions. The incumbent must possess a high degree of independence and problem solving ability, as well as have the ability to think logically, multitask, and apply laws, rules, regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions concerning personnel transactions. Incumbent must have knowledge of CalPERS laws, rules, and policies, State Personnel Board (SPB) and California Department of Human Resource laws, rules and policies, State Controller's Office (SCO) automated payroll system and California Leave Accounting System.

Background Investigation Requirement


The position(s) may require an applicant to pass a background investigation. However, applicants will not be asked to provide information about a conviction history unless they receive a conditional offer of employment.

The department will make an individualized assessment of whether the conviction history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job and the work performed by the department.
