Global Product Legal is the dedicated legal team for the product, operations, and engineering organization, covering product counseling, creator and industry partnerships, music rights, and AI development.We partner with business teams, legal specialists, and cross-functional partners to build strategies and execute on product and business initiatives, while navigating a complex regulatory environment and maintaining stakeholder trust.You will work with product, operations, and engineering from early planning through launch, helping deliver products and initiatives used by billions of people.We are looking for an experienced commercial attorney to provide support for the fast-growing TikTok U.S. Local Services team. The business team is responsible for showcasing U.S. based travel, leisure, food, and beverage businesses to millions of TikTok users across the globe and developing new engagement opportunities for TikTok users to discover, book, and share experiences with them from within TikTok. This position provides a unique opportunity to be part of a new and rapidly growing team within a global and established business. Candidates will be able to have real and significant impact on the development and direction of the U.S. Local Services business as they provide strategic business advice on cutting-edge issues key to the growth of a priority business.Ideal candidates are highly collaborative, self-motivated, strategic thinkers, intellectually curious, and capable of exercising independent judgment.This is a highly collaborative, on-site role that requires five days per week in the office located in San Jose, CA.

• Serve as the legal point of contact for the TikTok U.S. Local Services sales and operations team
• Negotiate deals with large online travel agencies, hoteliers, local attractions operators, large and small restaurant chains and businesses to make their offerings available within TikTok
• Provide advice on advertising and growth campaigns in and out of app for the promotion of the TikTok Local Services business and its travel, leisure, food, and beverage industry partners
• Provide training on federal and state regulations regarding growth and advertising campaigns
• Coordinate with global counterparts to align on business best practices on key negotiation points and business strategy
• Work closely with legal product counsel responsible for developing new features enabling the sale or promotion of travel, leisure, food, and beverage services
• Coordinate with legal teams such as payments and compliance and cross-functional teams within the company to provide advice to the business line
• Manage internal communication, projects, and training initiatives among different teams, including legal, various product organizations, and operations teams

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Extensive years of practical experience in commercial contracts (or equivalent), with prior experience working at a law firm or as in-house legal counsel in a relevant industry.
• Strong analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills, with practical experience in contract law and legal principles across jurisdictions.
• Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to understand business priorities, balance legal risks with operational feasibility, and provide solution-oriented advice; and the ability to enable business growth while promoting compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong interest and understanding of differing business models in the travel, food, and beverage industries
• Familiarity with federal and state requirements for online advertising and growth campaigns
• Familiarity with business practices of online travel and leisure or food businesses such as Uber, DoorDash, Expedia, Google Travel, etc.
• 4. Interest in global travel to support our business in other growth markets such as Northeast and Southeast Asia.

Job Information

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $174000 - $295800 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location.
