We are highly embedded within the digital product management organization and lead design efforts from concept through to production for the largest servicing channels for American Express, across web, mobile and push.Role Description This Senior Product Designer will define the visual quality and user experience of travel related journeys across native mobile and web platforms. This role is intended for a designer with exceptional visual craft—someone with a refined eye for typography, layout, motion, interaction, and detail who consistently delivers elegant, premium digital experiences. Beyond creating intuitive user journeys, this designer will establish a high bar for visual excellence, bringing a strong point of view that elevates both individual products and the broader design organization. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Research, and Content Design, this role independently leads complex initiatives from discovery through delivery, translating customer needs and business objectives into polished, production-ready experiences. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of shipping successful digital products, thrives in cross-functional product teams, and confidently communicates design decisions to stakeholders at every level. As a senior individual contributor, this designer leads through craft, execution, and influence, mentoring peers while championing outstanding visual design across travel journeys.ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesIdentifies the right artifacts to create based on project needs and timeline and delivers high-quality wireframes, prototypes, and production-ready designs that result in exceptional digital experiences. Sets the vision for the user experience and independently drives complex initiatives from concept through launch.Develops a deep understanding of customers through user-centered methodologies, research, analytics, external analysis, and data to create intuitive, visually compelling experiences that balance customer needs, business goals, and technical constraints.Presents design decisions, design strategy, and product vision to peers, cross-functional partners, multidisciplinary stakeholders, and senior leadership, communicating with clarity and confidence to build alignment and drive decisions.Actively improves design processes and workflows for the broader design organization. Contributes to and evolves design systems, UX patterns, and visual standards while consistently raising the bar for design quality and craft.Collaborates closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Design Leads, Researchers, Content Designers, and other cross-functional partners to define product requirements, influence product strategy, and deliver high-quality customer experiences.Actively engages with other designers to exchange ideas, share skills, provide thoughtful critique, and mentor teammates, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.Mentors associate designers and peers and may have a direct report, helping elevate the quality of design through coaching, feedback, and leadership by example.Efficiently leverages modern design tools to deliver high-quality artifacts, communicate ideas, facilitate collaboration with cross-functional partners, and build efficiencies into broader design team workflows.QualificationsQualifications5+ years of experience designing and shipping customer-facing digital products across both native mobile (iOS and Android) and responsive web platforms, with a portfolio demonstrating successfully launched experiences and a proven track record of delivering measurable customer and business impact.Demonstrated success independently leading complex product initiatives from discovery through launch.A portfolio that demonstrates exceptional visual design craft across customer-facing digital products, showcasing excellence in typography, hierarchy, layout, color, motion, interaction design, and meticulous attention to detail.Proven ability to create premium digital experiences that balance aesthetic excellence with usability, accessibility, customer needs, and business outcomes.Experience designing consumer-facing products, preferably within travel, lifestyle, hospitality, e-commerce, or other experience-driven digital products.Expert knowledge of Figma, including advanced prototyping, component libraries, design systems, and modern collaborative workflows.Demonstrates a deep understanding of user-centered design methodologies, research, accessibility, and iterative product development.Strong product thinking with the ability to translate customer insights, business goals, and technical constraints into thoughtful end-to-end experiences.Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills with the ability to influence product teams, multidisciplinary stakeholders, and senior leadership.Demonstrated ability to independently own multiple complex initiatives while mentoring other designers and elevating the quality of design through feedback, critique, and collaboration.SkillsAccessibility DesignCustomer Journey MappingDesign ThinkingProduct StrategyPrototypingRequirements GatheringWireframingAbout the TeamAt American Express, our culture is built on a 175-year history of innovation, shared values and Leadership Behaviors, and an unwavering commitment to back our customers, communities, and colleagues.
