Compensation: $28-$32 (6 month contract-to-hire)

Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic supervises and leads the maintenance team responsible for facilities and processing equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations across the production lines. This role oversees preventative and corrective maintenance, supports capital projects and new line installations, and drives continuous improvement in maintenance processes, safety practices, and equipment reliability.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct the daily activities of employees in the Maintenance department for both facilities and processing equipment.
• Lead the team to establish, refine, and improve equipment maintenance processes, including preventative inspections, corrective repairs, and overhaul planning and execution.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment in the facility and on processing lines to ensure safe, reliable, and successful operations.
• Lead project teams in the successful installation, commissioning, and start-up of new machinery and production lines.
• Oversee the dismantling, repair, and reassembly of machinery and equipment used in production processes.
• Manage the implementation and enforcement of departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support standardized work practices.
• Monitor the use and inventory levels of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment, and initiate reordering when necessary to prevent downtime.
• Inspect and audit completed maintenance work to ensure conformance with standards and compliance with safety and quality requirements, and recommend improvement ideas.
• Implement and manage the Preventative Maintenance program and work order system, ensuring all personnel follow established guidelines and schedules.
• Manage capital projects, including new production lines, process design improvements, and equipment innovations.
• Create and maintain a productive and safe work environment by implementing and sustaining company safety training, assessments, and best practices.
• Collaborate with operations and other departments to minimize equipment downtime and support production goals.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration, and PLC-related issues to restore equipment to proper operation.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or packaging environment preferred.
• Strong technical understanding of production equipment, maintenance operations, and troubleshooting methods.
• Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance, corrective repairs, and maintenance troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems, including hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Experience with electrical maintenance and electricity/PLC knowledge for diagnosing and resolving control-related issues.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation.
• Knowledge and practical use of computer skills, including Excel and Word, for documentation and reporting.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with team members and other departments.
• Ability to work under tight timelines while delivering high-quality results and maintaining safety and compliance.
• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and development to a maintenance team, including coaching and skill-building.
• Experience in maintenance work within a food manufacturing environment, including familiarity with sanitation and cleanliness standards.
• Experience with troubleshooting refrigeration systems used in production environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Previous exposure to food manufacturing processes and equipment is highly beneficial.
• Familiarity with Preventative Maintenance and work order programs or computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Ability to identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Comfort working with standardized operating procedures and documenting maintenance activities.
• Capability to support capital projects, including new line installations and process design improvements.
• Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on equipment reliability and uptime.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, clean warehouse-style food production facility. The environment is generally comfortable, neither too cold nor too hot, though conditions may vary slightly by area. The facility consistently carries the aromas of food products, such as dumplings and soy sauce, reflecting active food manufacturing operations. Certain areas can be loud due to running equipment and machinery, so hearing protection may be required where appropriate. The facility emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and safety, with a strong focus on maintaining a well-ordered production and maintenance workspace.

This is a Contract position based out of Gilroy, CA.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Gilroy,CA.
