Job Summary/Description FOX 12 Oregon, the #1 local news station in the Portland market, is hiring a Managing Reporter to help guide coverage for our award-winning newscasts, mentor and grow storytellers in our newsroom, and provide dynamic leadership to our reporting team. The Managing Reporter will lead by example, managing reporters with hands-on guidance about researching, interviewing, writing, and executing all aspects of their jobs, while working with the News Management Team to set and fulfill goals for the whole newsroom. Duties/Responsibilities Taking a leadership role in determining content and coverage plans for the newsroom—from developing story ideas in the editorial meetings through execution in the field and in the newscasts Working with reporters and field crews daily on content development strategies, storytelling techniques, and ideas for active live shots Leading coverage on major stories by gathering, writing, and delivering content on air Fostering a team environment and maintaining a positive, inclusive culture in the newsroom Performing other duties as assigned Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred, or equivalent training and/or experience. At least 5 years of experience as a General Assignment Reporter. Newsroom leadership experience preferred. Strong editorial, writing, and storytelling skills and working knowledge of newsroom systems, like ENPS. This position requires the employee to be able to drive for business needs. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record (MVR) are required.
