Infusion Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Sitka, Alaska. This role is integral to providing comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring infusion services within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

The Infusion RN will be responsible for the full spectrum of patient care, from initial assessment and care planning to the administration of specialty IV fluids, including immunotherapy and chemotherapy medications. This position involves meticulous patient monitoring, maintaining various vascular access devices, patient and family education, and coordinating care with referring providers and pharmacy to ensure a seamless and safe treatment experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to infusion patients, collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Facilitate and oversee patient referrals for tests and treatments, ensuring continuity of care and accurate documentation.
• Coordinate and oversee appointment scheduling for infusion patients.
• Review and document patient test and examination results, communicating pertinent information to referring providers and patients.
• Observe, assess, and report patient conditions, reactions to medications, treatments, and procedures, documenting all relevant data.
• Administer specialty IV fluids, including immunotherapy and chemotherapy medications, via peripheral or central venous catheters according to prescribed order sets.
• Maintain Central Venous Catheters (CVC), Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC), and other IV access devices in accordance with INS/ONS and facility guidelines.
• Identify, assess, and diagnose actual or potential patient health problems through thorough assessment and interaction.
• Prepare patients for infusion administration by reviewing orders and effectively communicating with referring physicians, oncologists, and pharmacy.
• Ensure prior authorization is initiated for infusion services as needed per patient referral.
• Develop and participate in educating patients and their families on infusion therapy, post-discharge care, and disease processes.
• Initiate patient care meetings with the healthcare team to review and adjust care plans as patient conditions warrant.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment, adhering to infection control and safety precautions.
• Utilize knowledge of pharmacology, procedures, and safety protocols to initiate appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
• Participate in staff development activities and ongoing education to maintain current professional knowledge in oncology/infusion nursing care.
