Position Summary
The Tax Compliance Specialist for PenServ will be responsible for managing complex and varied reporting requirements
related to withdrawals from retirement plans, and for managing varied licensing requirements for applicable states. This
role focuses on federal and state tax, licensing compliance, and regulatory filings rather than general accounting. Key
duties include preparing numerous Forms 1099-R, required quarterly withholding reports, and periodic reporting to state
licensing authorities. A Tax Compliance Specialist at PenServ will specialize deeply in the regulatory compliance of
withdrawals from retirement plans (e.g., 401(k), 403(b), Pensions) and licensing requirements.
Position Responsibilities
Research and monitor changes to federal and state laws regarding retirement plan distribution withholdings to
ensure adherence to applicable regulations and taxing authorities.
• Develop procedures for withholdings based on plan type and applicable state.
• Accurately file Forms 1099-R with appropriate tax authorities.
• Accurately maintain required quarterly reporting for all applicable states.
• Research and monitor changes to TPA Licensing requirements by state.
• Assist with opening accounts and periodic reporting for the TPA licenses required by state.
• Work closely with CFO for organization of data, regulations, and reviews of returns being filed.
• Act as a liaison during taxing authority audits, resolving discrepancies and providing necessary documentation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the team and organizational goals.
Essential Skills
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required.
• Two years of experience in tax at a CPA firm.
• Willingness to deeply research and understand complex and detailed reporting requirements.
• Professional demeanor and good communication skills with the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced
environment.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills including record keeping, time management, and follow up.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and sense of urgency, ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality and accuracy of
work.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and deal with interruptions while meeting timely deadlines.
Beneficial Skills
Specific experience with ERISA regulations and retirement plan administration is highly valued.
• Strong attention to detail for testing and reconciling complex data sets.
• Familiarity with 401(k), 403(b), and pensions.
