Service Engineer

Description Position Overview Term: 6+ months Location: Edison, NJ Pay: $45.00 per hour Hours: Typically 8am – 5pm; may vary per project needs Zones seeks a Service Engineer to perform fieldwork at customer sites, resolving and repairing server systems. This role supports post‑sales service, requiring technical aptitude with server products and excellent interpersonal skills. On‑site and remote troubleshooting of complex Supermicro equipment in an enterprise environment Drive customer satisfaction through service excellence, preventive maintenance, and efficient repair/parts cycle management Manage escalation situations quickly and professionally Provide 2nd line support to resellers and distributors Maintain high level of enterprise solution product knowledge Collaborate with Technical Account Manager, Service Manager, and Product Manager to define service programs Provide fault triage information and training materials Run tests and simulations at facility to assist with problem solving Travel to the field to train and resolve customer issues Train new service engineers Work under direction of Technical Account Manager and take ownership of customer base Be self‑sufficient in the field Defuse challenging situations Manage time effectively, prioritize, and make sound business decisions to meet service expectations Determine requirements and root causes of technical issues by working with customers Resolve problems by clarifying issues, researching alternatives, implementing solutions, and escalating unresolved problems Produce meaningful reports and metrics (a plus) Work flexible hours and/or shifts, including weekends and holidays if needed Travel required (75% or more) What you will bring to the team Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (preferred) 5+ years of experience servicing complex x86 systems and parts Associate’s degree in electrical technology, electronics, or equivalent military experience considered Experience in large enterprise or certification in Windows and Linux environments (a plus) Break/fix experience and on‑site customer service experience (emphasized) Hands‑on experience with servers (Supermicro, EMC, Dell, HP) Strong hardware diagnostics skills and understanding of BIOS, drivers, and application loads Strong technical communication skills to lead investigations with multi‑discipline engineers Excellent written and verbal communication, project management, and time‑management skills Ability to participate in multiple cross‑functional projects concurrently in a rapidly changing environment within established timelines Excellent planning and follow‑up on planned actions Ability to work in a challenging, dynamic, and fast‑paced environment; solution‑oriented, team player, proactive in driving solutions Ability to work effectively in high‑pressure situations Full professional proficiency in English (read/write/speak) Punctual and detail‑oriented Familiarity with Linux is a plus Benefits Zones is committed to supporting its team with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical coverage, state‑mandated sick leave, and other benefits designed to support well‑being and work‑life balance.
