Job Description:

The Certified Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering safe and competent respiratory care as ordered per physician, with emphasis in specialty areas including Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Responsibilities include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, patient assessment, understanding ramifications of hemodynamic monitoring and blood work results, as well as monitoring, teaching, and training.

Responsibilities:

• Competent delivery of all Respiratory Care procedures as outlined in the department policy and procedure manual.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all Respiratory Care procedures per department policy and procedures.
• Verify Respiratory Care physicians' orders and update patient information to reflect current clinical status.
• Attend and participate in department in-services, meetings, patient care rounds, and mandatory hospital meetings.
• Perform effective airway management and assist with intubation. Demonstrate safe suction techniques and use of artificial airways.
• Assist in orientation/training of new employees, respiratory/nursing students, and precept new employees.
• Perform arterial blood gas draws and monitor ventilator patients.
• Complete required training and education for protection against exposure to hazardous substances.
• Responsible for verifying accuracy for payroll preparation and performs patient charge reconciliation.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 16 years of age; 21 for driving positions with a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to legally work in the United States and pass a background check.
• Must complete employee health meeting and pass drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
• Graduate of a COARC approved Respiratory Care Program with the CRT Credential and BLS certification within 90 days of hire. NRP certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Minimum of one year respiratory experience in a hospital setting preferred; experience in pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics preferred.
