Overview

Insight Global is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to support a major defense manufacturing client at their Groton, CT facility. This role plays a critical part in implementing and evaluating compliance with the company’s Industrial Hygiene and Safety programs. The selected candidate will work closely with all levels of management, production personnel, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

The Industrial Hygienist will serve as a key technical resource for site-wide health and safety programs, including:

• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Hazard Communication (HazCom) Program.

• Maintain and evaluate Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all vendor-supplied materials.

• Develop and maintain in‑plant and shipped material HazCom labels.

• Review and approve new hazardous materials prior to purchase.

• Conduct industrial hygiene sampling (noise, particulates, hazardous materials, vibration, etc.).

• Support sampling of painted surfaces and collaborate with Engineering/Planning on safe work practices.

• Perform ergonomic evaluations for production and office environments.

• Conduct periodic shipboard and facility surveillances, including tracking and trending of deficiencies.

• Develop and revise safety and health training lesson plans; deliver training as needed.

• Issue written reports summarizing findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.

Skills and Requirements

Required Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in medical or chemistry related field

• Ability to work in physically demanding environments (heights, confined spaces).

• Ability to work overtime, off-shifts, weekends, and travel as needed.

• Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces. Preferred Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of OSHA safety and health standards, especially maritime standards.

• Industrial Hygiene experience.

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

• Experience in a shipyard, maritime, or construction environment.
