Inspection Technician – Fire & Life Safety

Alert Alarm Hawaii is looking for experienced Inspection Technician to join our growing team. This is more than a checklist-and-report position. You will use your technical knowledge to inspect, test, troubleshoot, service, install, and maintain fire alarm and related life-safety systems while working directly with customers and supporting some of the most critical systems in commercial facilities throughout Hawaii.

We value technicians who can think through a problem, read a drawing, understand how a system is supposed to operate, identify what is wrong, communicate the issue clearly, and take ownership of getting the job completed correctly.

What You'll Do

As an Inspection Technician, you will work independently in the field while partnering with our operations, service, and project teams.

Your responsibilities may include:

* Inspect, test, service, troubleshoot, install, and maintain fire alarm and related fire and life-safety systems.
* Perform work in accordance with approved plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, applicable NFPA standards, adopted codes, and company procedures.
* Read and interpret plans, riser diagrams, point lists, sequences of operation, wiring diagrams, submittals, and technical documentation.
* Install and terminate fire alarm devices, equipment, wiring, pathways, interfaces, and related low-voltage components.
* Program, configure, test, and commission supported systems within your demonstrated competency and company authorization.
* Perform system startup, pretesting, functional testing, acceptance-test support, and customer training as assigned.
* Respond to scheduled and emergency service calls and troubleshoot system troubles, supervisory conditions, false alarms, communication failures, ground faults, device failures, and other system conditions.
* Diagnose problems and repair or replace defective components using approved and compatible parts and accepted industry practices.
* Verify repairs through appropriate functional testing before returning systems to normal operation.
* Inspect and test fire alarm systems and, when qualified and assigned, fire suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers.
* Coordinate testing with monitoring centers, customer representatives, and responding authorities as required.
* Verify that devices, circuits, notification appliances, releasing functions, and system interfaces are properly restored after testing.
* Identify and clearly document deficiencies, impairments, inaccessible devices, incomplete work, and items that could not be tested.
* Identify required parts, quantities, locations, access requirements, and recommended corrective action.
* Recognize potential code concerns, scope conflicts, concealed conditions, material shortages, change-order opportunities, and life-safety risks and escalate them appropriately.
* Communicate professionally with customers regarding system conditions, work performed, deficiencies, recommendations, and follow-up needs.
* Complete accurate service tickets, inspection reports, test records, time entries, material usage, customer signatures, and other required documentation.
* Maintain assigned vehicle, tools, ladders, test equipment, PPE, inventory, and truck stock in a safe, clean, secure, and professional condition.
* Protect customer property, confidential information, access credentials, keys, plans, codes, and system information.
* Follow all safety requirements and perform only work for which you are trained, qualified, licensed, and authorized.

The Technician We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who considers themselves a technician—not just someone who checks boxes.

You may be a strong fit if you:

* Have hands-on experience with fire alarm, fire protection, electrical, security, or low-voltage systems.
* Understand the fundamentals of electricity, wiring, electronics, and testing equipment.
* Can troubleshoot a problem rather than simply identify that a problem exists.
* Can read and understand drawings, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer instructions.
* Take pride in clean, accurate workmanship.
* Understand the importance of documentation in the fire and life-safety industry.
* Can communicate technical information clearly to customers and coworkers.
* Are comfortable working independently in the field and managing your assigned workload.
* Know when an issue is within your expertise—and when it needs to be escalated.
* Take safety and code compliance seriously.
* Want to continue developing your technical skills and industry certifications.

Qualifications

**Required:**
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
* Ability to satisfy company background-screening and drug-testing requirements.
* Ability to work safely in field environments and perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and leadership.

**Preferred:**
* Previous fire alarm, fire protection, electrical, security, or low-voltage field experience.
*NICET certification, particularly NICET II or higher.
* Fire alarm manufacturer certifications.
* Fire extinguisher, fire suppression, or other applicable industry certifications.
* Experience performing inspections, testing, service, installation, startup, or commissioning.
* Experience troubleshooting fire alarm systems and related life-safety equipment.
* Knowledge of applicable NFPA standards and adopted fire/life-safety codes.

What It's Like in the Field

This is a field-based position serving customers throughout the assigned territory.

You should be comfortable with:
* Traveling to customer locations.
* Walking, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in difficult-access areas.
* Working at heights and in mechanical, electrical, construction, and equipment areas.
* Carrying and positioning tools, ladders, equipment, and materials.
* Working around noise, dust, varying temperatures, and other typical field conditions.
* Occasional overtime, on-call assignments, evenings, weekends, inter-island travel, and out-of-town work based on customer and operational requirements.
