JOB SUMMARY Works under the supervision of Manager of the Department. Acts as receptionist for area. Schedules surgical procedures according to established policies and practices. Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product of service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience. As a customer-focused Memorial Healthcare team member, he/she must be accessible, flexible, knowledgeable, and responsive. Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acts as receptionist for area, as appropriate.
- Scheduling of surgeries and procedures as sent from physician offices:
- Distributes "draft procedure schedule" to Pre-op Holding for timely preparation of patient charts.
- Accurately schedules patient procedures within physician blocks and works closely with office schedulers to ensure effective use of the OR schedule
- Coordinates with Anesthesia for surgical and procedural scheduling
- Assists manager, associate manager and charge nurses with other duties as assigned.
- Collects data to compile management reports as assigned.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, physicians, and employee issues.
- Demonstrates job related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his/her assigned unit. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures.
- Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
- Completion of medical terminology course.
- Completion of patient care secretary class at accredited college, Memorial Healthcare, or equivalent on-the-job experience.
- Requires level of education necessary to read and interpret physicians' orders and patient charts.
- Performs basic math skills.
- Type 45 words per minute with no more than five errors.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proficient with Expanse documentation.
- Sufficient knowledge to type, file, maintain monthly records.
- Perform related clerical activities.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Small motor skills required for operating modern office, computer and telephone equipment as utilized by Memorial Healthcare
- On a daily basis may be required to move about, sit or bend. May be required to push/pull/carry items between 20-100lbs
- Ability to adapt and maintain focus in fast paced, quickly changing or stressful situations.
- Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents including, but not limited to policies, operating instructions, white papers, regulations, rules and laws.
- Effectively problem solves.
- Organize and prioritize responsibilities.
- Understand, observe and interpret policies and procedures with minimal supervision
- Function calmly in times of pressure or crisis.
- Follow directions and provide follow through with projects assigned.
- Understanding and knowledge of workflows associated with process in patient care/clinical areas.
- Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipmentas used by Memorial Healthcare.
- Able to see for the purpose of reading information received in formats including but not limited to paper, computer, reports, bulletins, updates, manuals.
- Able to hear for work-related purposes.
- Communicate receptively and expressively in English, both written and spoken, with patients, families, staff, volunteers, and other healthcare providers
- Maintain self-control.
- Accurately hear and communication by phone or in person.
- Ability to interact with co-workers, hospital staff, administration, patients, physicians, the public and all internal and external customers in a professional and effective, courteous and tactful manner, at all times, physically, verbally and in all written and electronic communication.
- Required to remain calm when adversity is encountered.
- Open, honest, and tactful communication skills.
- Ability to work as a team member in all activities.
- Positive, cooperative and motivated attitude.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, coordinate multiple duties simultaneously, and be able to independently solve healthcare information management related issues.
- Have outstanding customer service skills including service recovery strategies for both internal and external customers.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and provide and accept constructive criticism.
- Follow the chain of command.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Able to maintain a professional and courteous manner at all times.
- Conduct oneself in a helpful, calm, patient and tactful fashion in all communications, whether in person, on the phone, or via computer.
