Principal Electrical Engineer

Principal Electrical EngineerKent is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to be based in Houston, Texas. You will provide project discipline engineering support on project teams towards the successful completion of projects as assigned so that they are successfully completed and meet the objectives.Responsibilities:Experience in the design of electrical distribution systems in a project team environment with a focus on power generation for data centers, utility coordination and data center power distribution.Prepare Electrical specifications and datasheets – familiarity with AIA MasterSpecs is preferred.Develop load lists and equipment sizing.Develop single line diagrams with relaying, protection and metering systems from low to high voltage.Develop/Coordinate protective relay settings and coordination studies including Arc Flash.Design and layout of electrical substations and prefabricated electrical buildings per NEC requirements.Design of BESS with integration into the overall electrical systemDevelop SCADA, Load Shedding, and other required systems for communication and control of the entire electrical system including generators.Prepare electrical packages for quotation and purchasing following company standards.Review vendor designs for compliance with Technical Specifications and applicable standards.Prepare packages for code review and permitting by local/applicable authority having jurisdiction.Establish the scope of work for projects/ proposals, developing engineering cost estimates and deliverable lists.Provide Electrical BOMs and major equipment costs for capital cost estimates at various project stagesCoach and support the team members on projects.Monitor and update electrical manhours and schedule progress on assigned projects.Attend project team meetings, Client meetings and vendor review meetings.Establish a good working relationship with the Clients.Review designs for constructability in accordance with project requirements.Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized institution.A minimum of 15 years of experience in the design of Electrical distribution systems in power generation and data centers.Proficient in engineering theories and principles.Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).Good writing skills to produce reports, scope documents and presentation materials.Knowledge of applying engineering application software like ETAP or SKM to perform relay coordination, load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonic and motor starting the analysis.Knowledge of electrical design calculations.Knowledge of Interfacing with DCS, SCADA, PLC etc.Knowledge of Electrical Area Classification design and studies.Knowledge of BESS including Battery/UPS systems.Knowledge of Substation Grounding study and Grounding Grid Layout.Familiar with outdoor/indoor Substation Equipment layout.Strong client focus; able to represent the company professionally when communicating with clients and visiting client sites.Proven experience in successfully leading medium to large-size projects (budget of about 20000 hrs.).Experience in managing vendor electrical packages (substations, MCC buildings, Transformers, BESS, VFD etc.).Works with minimal supervision, manages own time effectively and maintains control over all current projects/responsibilities.Knowledge of domestic and international codes (NEC, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA, etc.) and Best Engineering Practices that apply to Electrical.Quality management system and procedures.Project management and control procedures.Electrical workflow and interdisciplinary co-ordination.Project Electrical Deliverables.Proficiency in understanding Electrical Operating philosophy.Proficiency in Power system studies and analysis.Exhibits an understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, project management processes, and construction workflow.Communication:Effective communications skills in English (written and verbal).Behavior/ Core Competencies:Leadership skills, team player, proven multi-tasker with strong organizational skills.Demonstrate a high regard for safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Demonstrated leadership skills, self-motivated & goal-oriented and team player.Proven multi-tasker with strong organizational skills, with the ability to meet assignment schedule & deliver quality products under pressure.Project Risk Assessment.Adherence to HSE norms by self and team.Strong computer background including experience with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).HSSEQ: The Employee shall observe the Health, Safety, Sustainability, Environment and Quality rules of the Company; it's clients and the governing authorities of the host country.Details about the role:Location: Houston, TXRelocation required: N/ATravel required: Per Project RequirementsContract type: N/AExperience level: 15 years
