Venture-backed AI technology startup in the logistics and manufacturing space is looking to add a Data Engineering Platform Manager to its growing team in McLean, Virginia (hybrid). This is an opportunity to lead a small engineering team while remaining hands-on in building scalable data platforms, ingestion pipelines, and processing systems that transform complex, unstructured data into actionable insights.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong data engineering and software development background, experience building production data platforms and pipelines, and the ability to lead technical execution in a collaborative startup environment. This person will play a key role in designing and evolving the infrastructure that powers AI-driven data extraction, processing, and intelligence.

Targeting:

\n

\n
• 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, platform engineering, or related fields.
\n
• Experience leading or mentoring small engineering teams while remaining hands-on technically.
\n
• Strong background designing and building scalable data ingestion, orchestration, and processing pipelines.
\n
• Experience transforming unstructured or semi-structured data—including documents, PDFs, emails, and other complex data sources—into structured, usable information.
\n
• Experience with data integrations, APIs, ETL/ELT workflows, and managing data across multiple sources.
\n
• Strong understanding of data platform architecture, system design, reliability, scalability, and production performance.
\n
• Experience building and maintaining production systems that support search, information extraction, analytics, or AI-powered applications.
\n
• Proficiency with SQL, relational databases such as PostgreSQL, and modern software development practices.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or similar technologies.
\n
• Background building document processing, NLP, information extraction, or LLM-powered data pipelines.
\n
• Experience with cloud platforms, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, and asynchronous processing.
\n
• Familiarity with Python, TypeScript, Node.js, and modern application development.
\n
• Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, observability, and production monitoring.
\n
• Experience partnering with AI/ML engineers to operationalize models and turn extracted data into actionable insights.
\n
• Experience at a venture-backed startup or high-growth technology company.
\n
• Background in construction technology, HVAC, IoT, manufacturing, logistics, or vertical SaaS.
\n
• Experience establishing engineering standards, improving development processes, and scaling data platforms as customer needs grow.
