SHOP TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Shop Technician reports directly to the Shop Manager and then to the General Manager. This position is responsible for the completion of all work assigned by management.

Safety is the most important component of our business. The Shop Technician / Mechanic is responsible for the safety of transportation equipment and providing support to comply with all Federal and State regulations.

Job Duties:

• Diagnosis and repair diesel, propane and gasoline engines
• Maintenance and repair of transmissions, suspensions, and exhaust systems
• Maintenance and repair of steering and electrical systems
• Repair wheelchair lifts
• Preventive Maintenance for all vehicles
• Service calls / Road rescues

This position assists with:

• Successful Department of Transportation (DOT) inspection each year
• Shop mechanic repairs 
• Maintains buses and type III vehicles
• Assists with ensuring the flow of work in the shop to be efficient and cost effective.

Requirements :

• General knowledge of diesel, propane and gasoline engine repair
• Adhere to all DOT regulations as they apply to bus maintenance and safety
• Knowledge of special needs safety equipment and proper repairs when needed
• Bus camera installation and maintenance
• Electrical knowledge of all bus equipment systems
• Possess and maintain a current CDL license with passenger, airbrake and school bus endorsements
• Must have own hand tools
• Able to be a substitute bus driver when needed
• Be able to lift heavy loads (up to 100 lbs.)
• Responsible for keeping a clean, neat work area

Work Environment:

• Loud and noisy environment
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, reach, and maneuver in tight spaces
